Literature and Medicine

This course is about the work of literature dealing overtly with illness and healing, with the help of physicians and other caregivers and works that raise questions about ethical behavior in the face of sickness.

For this paper you are to pick an idea or set of ideas discussed at some point during the semester (raised,

by the readings or class discussion) and develop an extended discussion or analysis of a literary

text of your choice (not one we read in class)(The Dr. stories by Atwood or One flew over the cukoos nest). Choose an issue or idea

and your supporting material based on your personal interests and knowledge.
