To be a leader is to share a vision with those within the organization. A leader solves problems, and this is done through the decision making process. It is done through identifying critical aspects that affect the outcome of a decision, assess the options, and set priorities (Al Khajeh, 2018). Once that is one, the leader must then anticipate the probable outcomes and envision the resulting consequences, reason substantially well in contexts more so those requiring quantitative analysis. In doing all the above, it allows the leader to then be able to create opportunities or an environment that allows the individuals in it to flourish (Boamah, Laschinger, Wong, & Clarke, 2018). It also allows them to manage expectations in that the leader is robust in making decisions, and as such, most, if not all, outcomes can be anticipated well beforehand. Outcomes present an opportunity for a leader to empower followers. It can be used to build capacity and give them greater space and or opportunities to grow themselves. Decision making is a critical component of leadership. A leader thinks critically and solves problems (Whitehead, Weiss, & Tappen, 2015). Problems are acknowledged and looked at as challenges in an attempt to resolve the problem. A winning leader is not deterred by it and, instead, looks at how decisions can be made to solve the problem (Whitehead, Weiss, & Tappen, 2015). These two are both parts of the decision-making process. Though separate, they do play a role in how decisions are made. Thinking critically is seeing beyond the surface and perceiving what could happen if certain decisions are made. Problems are solved by making decisions that aid to reduce or completely stop the problem. A leader, after making the decision, must then communicate eloquently and skillfully to the followers to ensure that everyone moves in the same direction (Žydžiūnaitė, 2018). It is not lost upon any leader the value of communication when making decisions. It is not enough to just make the decisions; it is also important to ensure that they are communicated clearly and concisely to the followers. Decision making is a critical component of leadership. It is so in that it is pivotal in leadership. Many times leaders have lost credibility by being indecisive. Decisions give direction more importantly on the way forward in any aspect, therefore, when a leader is indecisive, trust is lost, and a lot of confusion stems from the same. References Al Khajeh, E. Decision Making in Leadership The cornerstone of effective leadership is the ability to make decisions and stick to them. In every organization, decision making is an ongoing process. It enables leaders to ascertain a problem and develop solutions that are beneficial to everyone. Organizations need to make critical decisions and put them into motion for them to achieve their goals and be successful. There are several critical initiatives necessary for leaders to develop effective decisions that are defined by integrity. One of the key initiatives is making personal values shared (Weiss & Tappen, 2015). Both the management and the workers should be included in the process of decision making to foster teamwork and unity in the organization. This can be done through empowerment, which will make them feel like they have a stake in the success of the organization. Encouraging time for creativity is another critical role of decision making that enables leaders to realize how their potential can be meaningful. Decision making enables leaders to come up with policies and initiatives that contribute to the benefit of every organizational member. During decision making, leaders should be compassionate, which means showing interest in the wellbeing of the employees and understanding everyone in the organization (Prabhakar & Yaseen, 2016). They should be able to adapt to any changes in the organization and make effective decisions to enable them to accomplish what is needed at the right time. It is also vital for them to be effective listeners during the process of decision making to build trust with other members. Effective decision making enables leaders to communicate with the employees on the company’s objectives and coaching them step by step to achieve the desired goals (Hallo et al., 2020). Some of the most critical actions needed in decision making include establishing alignment across the organization, effective communication, trust, and following the right framework. The Decision-making process also helps leaders to develop a purpose based on facts presented and with a professional and quick judgment that contributes to fairness and substantial success.
