modern israel society politics and culture
Please ask if you have any questions!!
Essays should be at least one page, line spacing 1.5. (between a page and a half and 2 pages cite accordingly with the texts below)
Your task is to compare two texts created by authors who were Palestinian citizens of Israel, Mahmoud Darwish and Sayed Kashua. How can you read these texts in light of the periodization table we saw in class (if you can at all. If not, explain why)?
How each of them refers to the Palestinian/Arab dimension of his identity? How they refer to Israel, the Israeli society, and to their own sense of being an Israeli citizen?
What can we say about the genre in which each of them writes? Does it have anything to do with their ideological agenda or point of view?
What can we learn from Sayed Kashua’s reference to Darwish in his column?
Feel free to search for any additional materials about the two, and to incorporate it in your essay. Beyond my guide questions above, you can add any other aspects that seem relevant.
