Part # 1:
I think that Rita Pierson's TED Talk is quite inspirational. It leads me to this sole question for this module: How do you believe that you are or will be a champion for children? What do you or will you incorporate into your work knowing what you have learned within this module?
Part # 2:
Consider all that you have learned from the text, lecture, and TED Talks on academic motivation. I would like you to identify and explain in detail how you will apply some of these principles that are based in theory and practice. Be sure to identify the age range of your students and apply these principles to their level of development as well as considering what challenges you already know there to be. Be sure to include at least 6 specific and detailed ways that you will improve aspects of motivation within your classroom. If you do not have a classroom, then consider how you will do so within your role as counselor, administrator, etc. If you are yet to go into education, then determine a plan as a new educator or teacher. How will you begin the year implementing important motivational strategies?
2. When considering the developmental changes that occur in middle childhood or the bulk of elementary school years, describe how the following aspects change from early elementary to late elementary (how a 6 year old vs. an 11 year old look and act different): play at recess, how children/students engage in group work, how they perceive their academic performance, and how they are able to think (cogntiive changes). Imagine observing young elementary students vs. older elementary students as you are repsonding to this question. Incorporate what you think this looks like with the information from your Davies text
Use just these resources:
1- TED talk by Carol Dweck: The Power of Believing that you can Improve.
2- TED talk by Rita Pierson: Every Kid Needs a Champion
3- Chp. 11 in the Davies text.
