Think of it as replicating some aspects of the type of analysis performed in the various articles and book chapters we have read throughout the semester (to refresh yourself take a look chapter 6 in Agendas and Instability in American Politics and the Worsham and Stores article). Instructions for accessing, using, and downloading graphs from the Agendas website are below. There are three central tasks you need to perform to receive credit on the project, completion of which will raise one of your exam or quiz grades one letter grade. 1. Graph public attention to your issue, taking care to discuss the relationship between the various manifestations of public attention. 2. Graph congressional attention to your issue, taking care to distinguish entrance on the government (bills) from entrance on the decision (hearings) agenda. What is the relationship between the congressional agenda and the public agenda? Do you see evidence for periods of outside initiative, inside initiative, or mobilization? 3. Graph presidential attention to the issue. What is the relationship between presidential attention and public attention? Presidential attention and congressional attention? Can you tell who is leading whom? The point of the assignment is to graph attention and interpret the graphs to address the questions posed.
