post from Mr. Moor- Rawls states that justice and fairness often are mistaken for the same thing, but are indeed different

I need a 2 direct replies to two classmates discussion posts. It is on the same topic you did for me on Rawls. Below are the posts. I need at least 6 sentences for each post.

Post from Mr. Moor- Rawls states that justice and fairness often are mistaken for the same thing, but are indeed different However, they both have reciprocity in common. He explains that there are two principles associated with justice; “First, each person participating in a practice, or affected by it, has an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a like liberty for all; and second, inequalities are arbitrary unless it is reasonable to expect that they will work out to everyone’s advantage, and provided that the positions and offices to which they attach, or from which they may be gained, are open to all. These principles express justice as a complex of three ideas: liberty, equality, and reward for services contributing to the common good” (p. 303) If John Rawls concept of justice is applied to the idea of Donald Trump banning ALL Muslims from entering the US under his presidency, then that idea wouldn’t qualify as justice. There are good and bad people everywhere, and it’s crazy to assume all Muslims are bad. Denying ALL Muslims access to the United States goes against everything this country was meant to be and against what Rawls deems as justice.

Post from Girard- I believe Rawls main argument laid in his view of the principles of justice and fairness.  He introduced the two principles that he believed were associated with justice; “first, each person participating in a practice, or affected by it, has an equal right to the most extensive liberty compatible with a like liberty for all; and second, inequalities are arbitrary unless it is reasonable to expect that they will work out to everyone’s advantage, and provided that the positions and offices to which they attach, or from which they maybe gained, are open to all.  These principles express justice as a complex of three ideas: liberty, equality, and reward for services contributing to the common good” pg 303. Rawls also notes the differences between the principles of justice and fairness and pointed out how both principles shared the element of reciprocity.  He uses the example of a slaveholder recognizing his position in relation to his slave as unjust.  I would imagine this to be a serious matter of conscience and morality. The person has to face going against the norm of society, of the culture and stand on moral conviction. Deny the wealth and fortune that being a slaveholder would bring, to proclaim that his position is unjust. To relate that in today’s events it would be a white police officer standing up and testifying against witnessing a racially based act of police brutality. The principles of justice would demand that he testifies but the reality of society would make it an internal conflict of justice verses social obligation.
