Proposal
As consumers continue to have the opportunity to gain
more insight and knowledge into the most basic aspects of a business they
expect more and more from the companies they do business with. With businesses
diversifying and the world becoming more connected across the globe it is no
longer good enough to just make a great product or provide a great
service. Consumers want their companies
to stand for something they also stand for.
For business leaders, the ethical issue that comes into play is does my
corporation have a social responsibility?
When
determining if a corporation has an ethical social responsibility to its
community and its consumers the biggest question to ask is how this will impact
the business. A business is all about
profitability. So any investment in
corporate social responsibility should have some type of return on investment
to the company. Without it having a
return then is it really helping the company continues to grow and create more
opportunities for its employees? From a
Relativistic viewpoint this could actually be a hindrance to the company, not a
benefit. From a Deontological standpoint
the question is, does a company in fact have a duty to in some way assist in
the betterment of the community in which it operates?
The
purpose of the paper will be show that a consistent and well thought out
Corporate Social Responsibility program will help the company grow and increase
profits while fulfilling its ethical duties to its market. This will be shown be aligning the relativism
and deontological theories with the program to show how it will benefit the
community as well as the company.
