PSA and DBA Topic/Thesis
Document Based Assignment (DBA) & Primary Source Analysis (PSA) Assignment Instructions:
Objective: Students will select a person during the time period of this course and through source material they will demonstrate how he/she played a significant role in shaping history.
- Examples: a president, performer, scientists, innovator… This person could have influenced history in a negative or positive way through their ideas, actions, character or accomplishments. The topic for the PSA and DBA are one and the same, on a person.
- The topic for your Primary Source and Document Based Assignment are the same: AN IMPORTANT PERSON WHO LIVED DURING THE TIME modern times.
- The PSA is formatted in an analysis and annotation style to be used within the DBA’s formal essay.

- The PSA assignment is meant as a precursor to your Document Based Analysis… to get students to begin researching and analyzing sources in preparation for the Document Based essay.
- The PSA consists of three parts: source analysis, annotations and citations.

- The DBA comprises the document analysis from the PSA with additional research, evidence, and content related to your thesis.
- The Document Based Analysis serves as the final paper to include the research you completed for the Primary Source Analysis.
