purchasing: supplier selection and evaluation

techniques for supplier selection and evaluation have been found most effective
in recent years?

     In this contemporary world of the
competitive market, purchasing professionals must be able to provide to their
firms quality products at reasonable prices. “Product quality is a direct
result of the production workforce and suppliers. Buying organizations can no
longer afford to maintain a large supplier base” (Benton, p 157). In order to
reduce their supplier base while keeping up with the current trend at the same
time, they must carefully select suppliers that continually outperform the
competition. In other words, suppliers must be carefully analyzed and
evaluated. The pertinent question one must ask here is What techniques for supplier selection
