Purpose: This final project is designed to enable you to apply the theories and concepts we learned.

Purpose: This final project is designed to enable you to apply the theories and concepts we learned about leadership in current multinational business. You may also look at leaders of the “green” movement in business, which are as eco-oriented new emerging businesses.

Procedure: It is important to select a well-known leader of a business so that you have sufficient resource and background information on the leader. You are to select a wellbalanced combination of secondary resources (i.e., minimum 3 journals, books, magazines, etc.) in either hard copy or on-line sources.

Requirements: It is suggested that you select one important event, change, or challenge which put the leader in the headlines and evaluate the leader in response to that specific situation. Your analysis is to be based upon contemporary modes of leadership that look at the leader from the three perspectives: leader, followers, and the external environment.

1) External Environment & Strategic Challenge:

a. What was the leadership challenge? In other words, what was the leader trying to do? And how was she/he trying to do it?

b. What external challenges and pressures did the leader face and try to address?

2) Strategic Vision:

a. What was the leader’s vision and mission for this situation?

b. What was the desired outcome for the organization and this specific situation?

c. How successful was she/he in achieving their vision and desired outcome?

3) Leader:

a. What was the leadership style: i.e., transformation / transactional?

b. What were the benefits and disadvantages of this style?

c. What do employees say about the leader?

4) Leading Others:

a. What kinds of influence and authority did the leader use?

b. How effective was this?

c. How appropriate was this? Why?

5) Organization:

a. What was the organizational culture and structure like?

b. How does it relate to the leader’s style and influence?

c. Benefits and disadvantages of this culture and structure.

6) Evaluation of the Leader:

a. Evaluate the leader against level 5 leadership?

b. Evaluate the overall performance of the leader.

7) Insights:

a. What were the most important insights you gained about leadership from this research?

I. Title, Abstract, and Key Words:

a) The abstract should briefly describe the purpose of the study, the research design, and the findings.

b) Keywords of the research paper.

II. Introduction

A Key Issue/Problem Identification section

a) An explanation of why the topic is of importance for the contemporary work place

b) Research question and the structure of the research paper.

III. Review of Literature

This section pertains an in-depth literature review about the topic. With for example definitions of the study variables and a discussion of existing research findings related to the topic.

IV. Methodology

Here students should describe the methods they have chosen to use in order to achieve their research objective, which is to find a pertinent answer to the research question. How did they select the papers? Which databases have they used? Have they decided to exclude certain papers and why? What is their final sample?

V. Discussion and Recommendations

Students will have to analyze the results of their study. Discussion points 1 to 7 listed above. Based on their study findings, students should explain which leadership practices they recommend to companies in the UAE. The recommendations should be supported with a clear argument of why the leadership practices will improve organizational effectiveness (for companies in the UAE in specific). Student’s analytical skills will clearly be of central importance to this section.
