Find and read additional articles on global food waste and what some countries and organizations are doing about it. Then, answer these questions:

  • How much food is wasted each year a) in Canada and b) globally?
  • Various stakeholder perspectives:
    • What is being done locally to address the issue of food waste? What are the federal & provincial governments doing to address the issue?
    • Comment on Walmart’s response to CBC’s Market Place findings.
    • How have Canadian consumers responded?
  • Identify two countries that have been proactive in addressing food waste. Describe the specific actions these countries have taken. To what extent the actions have helped reduce food waste in these countries?
  • What steps has the grocery industry in Canada taken (if any) to address the food waste issue? Explain. What should/could the major grocery chains be doing?
  • What impact will the UN global standard to measure food loss and waste have on this issue? Discuss.
