Students will develop a formal oral presentation which may compliment, but is separate from any written communication assignment. Choose from persuasive, debate or panel presentation address – though persuasive speaking is preferred. The presentation must begin with the creation of a formal outline
(available on Canvas) which transitions the content from a written communication format to an oral communication format. This process includes formulating a topic appropriate to genre and discipline, developing a position/ thesis in a systematic way
through critically evaluating and selecting data/evidence that is organized into an argument that is clear, ordered and scholarly in APA style and format The student uses the formal outline preparation to develop the speaking outline, from which the student presents. The conventions of public speech must be required for this presentation – including the formal outline preparation submitted to Canvas for proper assessment. The minimum length for this assignment is 10 – 12 minutes.

Students will produce a research paper or project that demonstrates awareness of the nature of individual research within a scholarly context appropriate to genre and
discipline. The paper or project should present persuasive and creative reasoning in a justifiable, logical, and creative fashion that is within a scholarly context and presented and documented in a style that meets professional standards. There must be a research component to this paper or project, and the paper or project should contain at least 15-20 pages of writing.
