This chapter may be one of the most rewarding because it helps you to understand what conflict is and how you can resolve the interpersonal conflicts that you experience in everyday life. Lacking assertiveness is a problem many people have, and this chapter will help you gain the skills needed to become self confident and not allow others to take advantage of you.
We learn that conflict is an expressed struggle between at least two people who perceive the situation differently and are experiencing interference from the other person in achieving their goal. Additionally, we learn that conflict occurs between people because people are different and have different needs and wants. Therefore, the key cause of conflict is the degree to which individuals are different.
