Evidence of identity is central to criminal cases because a person can be judged guilty of a crime only on the basis of proof that he or she is the same person who committed the crime. Now suppose that you have been accused of stealing your Philosophy teacher’s 2000 Toyota from a VVC parking lot exactly three weeks ago. How would you prove that you are not the Toyota thief on the basis of Descartes’, Locke’s, or Hume’s concept of the enduring self (choose one)? What strengths and/or weaknesses of the selected philosopher’s concept of identity are suggested by your argument?
