The reverse logistics process has to incorporate practice to insure that, the company follows its own internal policies, are competitive in the returns process, have effective management team in place that provide a smooth reverse system, have knowledgeable staff to handle the returns, and still provide positive financial results (Meyer, H.). Companies have to also insure that they also monitor their customers, making sure that they receive an easy return provide that will provide a great customer experience (Meyer H.).
Companies also have to build strong relationships with their vendors and allow one another to have shared information of a product from raw material to the returns process (Meyer H.) Manufactures and their vendors need to be able to manage and track the flow of information across all levels of the supply chain from forward to reverse movement. When information is shared on a reduced level the supply chain may suffer a break and could directly impact a manufactures financial performance.
Companies love to have movement of the product from manufacturer to stores (Meyer, H.). What they do not like is to see the product returned. However, when products break during shipping or are no longer needed by the consumer, it also costs the company money (Meyer, H.). Companies can no longer afford to put the product in a shipping container, or send to a landfill anymore. The companies have to be ready to move the product into a money- making opportunity. They are under the scrutiny of the government and the customer and everyone is looking to make sure that the environment is a high priority.
I chose this article first because I liked the title and wanted to see what it was really discussing. I really like the returns process and like to see the many challenges and strategies that go into making the reverse logistics process successful.
