Scientific Article Written Summary
The writing requirement will be partially fulfilled by writing summaries of biology-related articles. The summaries should be treated as a writing assignment and written as an expository essay. Summaries should be approximately 1 page typed, single-spaced. Correct grammar and spelling should be used. Summaries should include information that answers the
following questions.
- What is the title?
- Who is the author(s)?
- What are the author’s (authors’) credentials? (Be sure to include affiliation.)
- What topic is addressed in the paper?
- What was the purpose of the article i.e. to present new findings on a particular topic, to discuss a scientific theory?
- What method(s) were used to collect the data that are presented/discussed in the article?
- What were the most important findings or conclusions that were presented?
- What is one new thing that you learned from reading the article?
