Module 4 – SLP
Job Design, Job Enlargement, and Job Enrichment
Job Enlargement and Job Enrichment
Job enlargement involves broadening the scope and breadth of a job by
expanding the number of different tasks to be performed. For example,
an assembly line worker could be tasked with a number of different
responsibilities. Job enrichment is increasing the depth of a job by
adding responsibility for planning, organizing, controlling, and
leading. An example of job enrichment is giving an employee more
flexibility to perform the job as needed. A new trend that is becoming
more prevalent is the concept of empowering employees in the workforce.
SLP Assignment Expectations
After doing some research, discuss how empowerment relates to job
enlargement and job enrichment. Discuss any experiences you have had
with job enlargement and/or job enrichment and the impact it had on your
organizational commitment and job performance levels. Lastly, as an HR
professional, when and how will you recommend job enlargement and job
enrichment for your employees?
Your paper should be short (2-3 pages, not including the cover sheet,
references, and assessment sheet) and to the point. You are expected to
deal with these issues in an integrated fashion, rather than treating
them as a series of individual questions to be answered one by one and
left at that.
