social work social policy problem
You are a member of a small think-tank comprised of fellow policy analysts. Your team will prepare a 10 page (minimum) (not including title page, tables, figures and references) White Paper evaluating the policy response of the United States to a (instructor-approved) social problem of your choice. Additionally, you will be expected to present your analysis at the conclusion of the course. Your fellow analysts will be critiquing your contribution to the project. The presentation/critique will count toward 50 points of your final grade on the project. An example and guide for writing this paper is located in Chapter 9 of the Chambers and Bonk textbook.
Content:
a. Identify and define the key social problem that will be the focus of your group’s mission. Address the causes and consequences, competing ideologies, winners and losers because of the problem.
b. Identify the main policies created in response to the social problem.
c. Analyze and compare the implementation of those policies, and how values, ethics and political ideology affect the policy’s implementation. You will need to discuss the rules and regulations that are established that guide how the various provisions of the policy are implemented. For example, how is the eligibility for services established and how are benefits determined?
