Southern Renaissance: Key Characteristics

Both the Northern and Southern Renaissance are influenced by humanism, but there are many differences in both style and subject matter. A rising middle class, a merchant class and Protestantism are just a few of the reasons why northern artists go in a different direction from their Southern counterparts – concentrating on artists such as Brueghel (see text), let’s do the same thing here – post a particular characteristic and identify an example – again, I am not asking for wikipedia overviews – just your thoughts on one key characteristic and an explanation and visual of how it appears!
