The purpose of this unit is to assist students to develop a sound understanding and appreciation of the complexity
of managing human resources in an international, globalised world. The unit is designed to give both insight to this
complexity and to develop a more critical understanding of both HRM approaches and the issues that arise with
employment relations that can apply and, at times, conflict in the context of another country and/ culture.
There is an emphasis on developing skills necessary to better apply this foundational knowledge in a sensitive and
appropriate way in international and local settings. Assignment tasks throughout the unit are designed to assist both
this knowledge gathering process and development and application of fundamental practice skills necessary for a HRM
practitioner.
