Outline your paper using the following headings:

I.Philosophical/historical roots

•Identify the theorist and the history of their work. Are they a psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker?

•Explain their clients and any research they did.

•How did they come up with this theory?

II. Theoretical framework

  • What are the basic concepts of the theory?

For example, in cognitive theory a concept is that a thought impacts behavior and/or symptoms.

Identify at least 2 concepts.

  • Give an example of a client issue and how the concepts of the theory explain the problem.
  • How will the concepts help the client change?
  • Identify at least 2 NASW Code of Ethics(2008) values that this theory supports when used in practice. Apply it to the example you stated above.
  • What are some other populations or social issues this theory would be helpful in your social work practice?
  • With what population would this theory not be the best choice?

III. Description of treatment process

  • Using the example in Section II, explain the initial phase of assessing this client. Initial phase (e.g., purpose, areas of study and investigation, use of relationship, client/worker interaction, nature and content of client participation, nature of worker authority and expertise
  • What behavior and/or symptom would you target to change or ameliorate?
  • What would be a task and/or strategy you would use (keeping in mind the concepts of the theory) with the client?
  • How would you know when it was time to terminate with the client

  • How does this theory inform research methods and topics? In other words, explain how using this theory support evidence-based practice.
