Group C did a great job summarizing the case study and identifying the impact on the culture as well as providing recommendations. I agree that the “office space” is recognized as a “reward” for the managers. The office space is seen as an “exclusive right” or possession and the managers will have a hard time letting the individual office space go after working so hard to achieve without resentment. I also agree that the hoteling office system is the best financial option based on the figures provided by the organization. Potential problems with this change could be diminished coordination and response time by the managers. A recommendation that may assist with the transition would be meetings attended by partners and managers to identify the potential barriers or issues that are assumed to occur with this change and then brainstorm solutions as a group or team to mitigate or remove the barriers and issues before they occur. The group could act out simulated problems and develop solutions. This would also be a team building process. For this transition to be successful the organization needs to have “buy-in” by the managers not just verbally but in their activities and actions as well. When my agency was “short” on desks, we assigned part-time staff that did not work on the same day to one desk to be shared. Employees like their own space even if they are not in the office very often. As a home health care agency 80-90% of the time staff are in the field home visiting but they each wanted their own space.
