try to do it as well or better than the papers you have done so far
We are living through the most serious public health crisis in a generation. Most experts would say that we have not experienced anything like this since 1918. Certainly pandemics have been a major source of concern and there have been others, but nothing that has threatened this many people and brought the global economy to a near halt. For this essay, you must develop a persuasive essay that in some way addresses how government has handled the response.
Has government failed, succeeded or somewhere in between? You can focus on any aspect of government you would like – the president, state governors, the congress, the bureaucracy, the parties – in making your point.
So state a clear thesis and present evidence to support your thesis. Here are just a few examples of possible thesis statements:
– President Trump has managed the crisis very well.
– The crisis shows that we need a system of universal health care.
– The crisis shows that federalism is an impediment to fighting a pandemic.
– The crisis can not be allowed to impede the 2020 elections.
– And so forth
Feel free to take some provocative angle on the crisis and the government response or role. Depending on your argument you might have only contemporary news sources to rely on or you might examine historical or social science studies that support your argument.
There are several requirements for successful completion of this assignment. First, you must make a strong and clear argument. Do not be descriptive or passive in presenting your views. Second, in support of your views you will need to cite a minimum of five sources. Your sources should be reputable and legitimate (be careful about internet based sources). Third, your essay must be clearly and thoughtfully written. This is a short essay, the grammar and writing should be in excellent condition – demonstrating a careful composition of your words.
The paper must be typed, double-spaced, have a title, employ a proper citation form, have a reference list, and must be no more than 1000 words.
