Purpose
Having a good vocabulary is a necessary skill for effective writing because using appropriate and varied words makes your writing more mature and collegiate. Often, one precise word can be used in place of a few weak words. Furthermore, understanding all of the words that you encounter in an assigned reading will help you to comprehend the entire text’s message more fully. A good practice is to circle or jot down on a piece of paper any words that you don’t know while you are reading, so you can look up their meaning in a dictionary. You may also use the context surrounding a word to figure out its meaning.
For this unit, you will be searching for and selecting two college-level vocabulary words from the assigned readings to post to our 4. Vocabulary Discussion Board.
Directions
- Select two words from the community college tution and mandatory voting readings.
- Type your two words in the Subject line separated with a space.
- In the text box,
- write the words you have selected;
- write out or copy and paste a definition for each word (that fits its usage in the article;
- write your own sample sentence for each word, using each word correctly. NOTE: Do not cut and paste a sample sentence from another source, which will be plagiarism. This sentence must be your own original creation.
- Post your response.
Note: You will not be able to see your peers’ postings untill you post your own words.
Grading
This is a required and graded assignment. You are required to post your unit word definitions and original sentences during the weeks that that unit material is presented. The dates of your postings will be checked. The vocabulary posting in this Unit is worth ten (10) points
