Discussion: Initiating the Strategic Planning Process

Strategic planning is essential for organizations
because, ultimately, it helps them to be of value to the stakeholders
and communities that they serve. While this provides a broad explanation
of the importance of strategic planning, it does not explain why it is
specifically relevant for your particular organization. When initiating
the strategic planning process, you want to be able to obtain
stakeholder buy-in, and to do this, you have to be able to explain its
relevance. For this Discussion, you examine the relevance of strategic
planning to the organization that you selected for your Final Project.

By Day 3

Post a brief description of the
non-profit or public organization that you have selected for your Final
Project. Explain why strategic planning is relevant to this
organization. Then, identify critical components of the organization’s
strategic planning process and explain why they are critical in terms of
missions and goals.

By Day 5

Respond to two colleagues in one of the following ways:

• Share additional insights as to why strategic planning is relevant to the organizations that your colleagues described.
• Identify additional critical components of strategic planning for the organizations that your colleagues described.
