Written Assignment #3 – Public Performance
1. Attend one (1) live music performance that includes ensemble-singing (min. 3 or more
singers). Some suggestions of choral concerts are available on Quercus and are
preapproved. 2. After attending the performance, complete the Public Performance Assignment
Template (found on Quercus) and email the completed template to the instructor .

Evaluation: 8.5+ – Concert observations appear accurate and detailed. Ideas are
supported with specific examples and descriptions from the concert.
Assignment shows evidence of clarity of thought and understanding of
good ensemble singing. Assignment could be a model for others.
7, 8 – Concert observations appear accurate. Ideas are supported with
some examples and descriptions from the concert. Assignment shows
evidence of some clarity of thought and understanding of good ensemble
singing, but could be improved with more detail and description from the
concert to support ideas.
5, 6 – Concert observations may not all be accurate. Examples and
descriptions from the concert are missing or are sparingly used.
Assignment does not present sufficient understanding of good ensemble
singing.
-5 – Significant errors, misinformation, and/or lack of detail is present in
the assignment. Student is recommended to ask for assistance
Concert #1: 2015 Colorado All State Choir

This concert contains three separate choirs: a soprano/alto choir, a mixed (SATB) choir, and a tenor/bass choir. If you look in the description section under the video you will find the full program with links to the different pieces. Helpful for you to jump around and hear different choirs, styles, and songs. If you select this concert, you could watch two of the three choirs or a mix of all the performances (for roughly 45 mins of music).

The Real Group is recognized as one of the finest a cappella vocal groups in the world. Set list is provided in the description section. Everything you hear is created with their voices.

“Roomful of Teeth (https://www.roomfulofteeth.org (Links to an external site.)) is a GRAMMY-winning vocal project dedicated to reimagining the expressive potential of the human voice.” Their work has been quickly gaining popularity and challenging us as listeners to reconsider the parameters we have put on vocal ensemble music. This performance is of one large work, divided into four separate movements (outlined in the description section).
