Yama and Niyama
Yama:
- Ahimsa – not hurt with words, thoughts, or actions. However, self-defense ok.
- Satya – Using words in the name of good.
- Asteya – Non steaing
- No taking what does not belong to you
- Not depriving someone of what is due to them
- Not taking even mentally
- Brahmacarya: Seeing everything as an expression of something greater.
- Aparigraha: living simply
Niyama:
Shaoca: purity of mind and body; cleanliness
Santosa: contentment/gratitude
Tapah: Selfless service
Svadhaya: Spend time reading uplifting/inspiring literature
Ishvara Pranidhana: Do meditation.
HW: Chose one of the Yamas and Niyamas and do your best to practice it very closely for the next week. Write at least 300 words describing your experience.
