counseling theories

Students are expected to write a 2-3 page reflection paper (not including cover page and references) describing a preferred approach to counseling from the theories we have covered throughout the semester in our textbook (e.g., Adlerian, Existential, CBT). The paper must be double spaced and written in APA format with a cover sheet and references. You may select one of the theories, or a combination of them, that you found to be most compatible with your beliefs, and most effective for helping clients deal with their problems.

All of the following needs to be addressed in your paper and you must LABEL EACH SECTION OF YOUR PAPER AS FOLLOWS:

· Selected Theories: What counseling theory or theories from the selected readings did you select and why?

· Goals for Therapy: What are the most important goals for therapy according to the selected counseling theory?

· Role of Therapist: What is your role and function as a therapist conducting this specific type of counseling?

· Techniques: What techniques would you be likely to apply to a specific problem(s) when using this type of counseling? Be sure to include the major techniques discussed in the textbook.

· Expectations of Client: What changes or outcomes would you expect to see from an individual after receiving this type of counseling?

Make sure that your opinions and assertions are supported by the information in the text and consistent with the theory or theories you selected. You should use the text as a reference as well as at least one outside resource and refer to it in your paper.

This paper will be submitted via Turnitin. Review the detailed Turnitin instructions (Links to an external site.) on how to submit your assignments and how to review the Grademark comments (feedback) from your professor. See the university’s policy on plagiarism.

Grading Rubric for Paper – 15 Points

Theory-based treatment planning,

Theory-based treatment planning, the type you will use throughout this course, is informed and guided by your theoretical orientation. Incorporating your theoretical orientation into treatment planning will help you set goals and choose treatment techniques and interventions appropriate for the client(s) you serve (Gehart & Tuttle, 2003). This week, you apply two counseling theories, Bowenian and structural, to formulate your treatment planning and apply appropriate interventions.

In this Assignment, you watch videos of counselors demonstrating the use of Bowenian and structural theories in family counseling. You then formulate treatment plans for the couples and/or families in the videos, applying the theories in question and justifying the use of appropriate interventions.

The Assignment (2–3 pages) treatment plan

Based on the theory demonstrated in both videos:

  • Define the problem in each video.
  • Create a theory-based treatment plan, including short- and long-term goals for the couples and/or families.
  • Explain two theory-based interventions you would use and justify your selection.
  • Explain one anticipated outcome of each theory-based intervention.

Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list for all resources, including those in the resources for this course.

Warm-Up 7.1: Continue to Work on Signature Assignment

By this point in your research paper, you are now ready to prepare an outline of your Signature Assignment. Preparing your outline will help you organize your thoughts, realize any areas that need more research, and get valuable feedback from your instructor before actually preparing the Signature Assignment.

Write a detailed outline of your research paper, including in-text citation for 10 sources and a reference list with 10 entries. The detailed outline should include all elements of your paper, including:

• Introduction• The three subtopics noted earlier• Conclusion

Your three subtopics may have changed as a result of your research. Elaborate on each of the subtopics with two or more sub-points in outline format. Include any quotes you intend to use in your paper, inserting them along with their citation, at the appropriate place in your outline.

If you have resources that no longer fit into the outline of your paper, create a “Future Research” category at the end of the outline for material you may want to use in another paper. Note any areas that need more references to support them.

Assignment

After reviewing the articles and videos on brain enhancement, carefully think about the advantages, disadvantages, and ethical implications of enhanced learning. Imagine that you have been asked to prepare an article in a psychology newsletter on the ethical implications of learning enhancement. Write a reflection paper that discusses your own ethical viewpoint toward the use of brain enhancement. Some of the issues you might consider in preparing your paper are:

• What types of pharmaceutical enhancements are currently being used? Of these, which ones are commonly considered acceptable, which ones are controversial?• What types of brain/computer interfaces have already taken place? What might be the future of such interfaces?• Will brain enhancements be equally available to all diverse groups? What happens if they are not?• Who controls how brains are enhanced and who receives enhancement?Support your paper with at least three additional scholarly resources.

Length: 3-5 pages; including 3 references

different parenting styles and how impact a child’s cognitive and social development

Briefly describe the different parenting styles discussed in this week’s readings. How could they impact a child’s cognitive and social development? Select two parental characters in TV or movie media (e.g., movies, situation comedies, TV dramas) and identify the styles that the characters who are acting in the roles of the parents are applying to the characters who are acting in the roles of children. Each of your characters should demonstrate a different parenting style—do not discuss two characters demonstrating the same style. What do the readings say about the effects of these parenting styles on cognitive and social development? In what ways are the behaviors of the children consistent with the information in the readings and in what ways are the children’s behaviors different?

Gender Identity Analysis

Discussion: Gender Identity Analysis

Males typically identify with the male gender and females with the feminine gender. The question for many researchers today and for this Discussion is: How does this gender identification occur? How do individuals come to identify with and accept themselves as either one gender or the other? This concept is termedgender identityin psychology.

There are two terms associated with gender identity that are important to highlight:gender stabilityandgender consistency. Gender stability means that gender is a stable personal characteristic and does not change with age or the situation or the environment. Gender consistency means that you identify with your gender regardless of how you are behaving. If you are a male and put on a pink dress, you show gender consistency if you still identify with being male, even though you are behaving like a female.

In this Discussion, you will explore some of the significant factors that influence gender identity and how these influencing factors impact society as a whole.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapter 6 in the course text,Gender: Psychological Perspectives. Focus on how different factors influence gender identity. Read “Demographic and Psychosocial Factors Associated With Psychological Distress and Resilience Among TransgenderIndividuals” and “Cross-Cultural Analysis of Gender Roles: Indian and US Advertisements.”
  • Watch a few different TV shows, sitcoms, commercials, or news reports. Also, look at a popular magazine and peruse the ads. Think about how these media sources 1) influence and or reinforce gender identity and 2) play a part in influencing gender bias. Focus on specific examples.
  • Using yourself or your child (or someone else’s child with whom you are close), think about the most important influential factors on gender identity, including biological, environmental, family, peer group, and cultural.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 3

Postyour thoughts on how biology, environment, culture, family, peer group, and the media impact gender identity in the United States. Briefly describe how this influence on gender identity is accomplished. Then, describe the reasons individuals may experience gender dysphoria. Finally, provide some examples for how you think that society can best support the transgendered community. Be sure to support your examples with evidence from your research.

Social Change Portfolio: Part 1: Scope and Consequences

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resources on your own before you bid. You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. APA format also requires headings. Use the prompt each week to guide your heading titles and organize the content of your initial post under the appropriate headings. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that is current. Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. I need this completed by 06/10/20 at 8pm.

Discussion – Week 1

Top of Form

Social Change Portfolio: Part 1: Scope and Consequences

As you begin to develop your portfolio addressing a social change issue, you will have opportunities throughout the term to use the Discussion boards to share your progress with your colleagues. These forums allow your peers to provide consultative feedback to you, and for you to offer your perspective to them. For this Discussion and others in this course, you are asked to address specific points and to respond to your peers in specific ways. Your experience with these Discussions contributes to your understanding of consultation and to your skills as a practitioner.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Learning Resources for this week as they relate to the scope and consequences of an identified problem in communities.
  • Create a section in your Social Change Portfolio called “Introduction,” and provide an introductory paragraph about your Social Change Portfolio.
  • Create a section in your Social Change Portfolio called “Scope and Consequences” and include the following information:
    • The target problem you identified within your community. Select only one problem. This needs to be a public health/mental health problem that can be addressed through prevention. (In Waco, TX there is a lack of resources in the black community that help those with mental health problems or you can talk about the lack of things available to help keep kids off the streets leaning to violence)
    • Describe the scope of the problem, such as the prevalence rates in your community, how those rates compare to national averages, and information about trends. Focus on local trends if available but if local data is not available, then describe national trends. For your project, trends refer to whether rates are increasing or decreasing or if there are other changes in the problem over time.
    • Describe the consequences of this problem in your community including physical health consequences, mental health consequences, social/educational/family consequences, and economic consequences.
    • Provide a one-sentence goal statement for your Social Change Portfolio.

Note: For the purposes of this course, your focus is to develop a plan, but not to actually implement the project. In goal setting, consider what is truly achievable. A vast goal such as, “eliminate teen substance abuse in my community,” is unrealistic.

Instead, a goal such as “increase awareness of teen substance abuse and identify resources and a plan to reduce teen substance abuse” is more realistic.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Then, in your own words and using your own examples, describe the six facet scales associated with this scale (Trust, Straightforwardness, Altruism, Compliance, Modesty, and Tender-Mindedness). Be sure to characterize high and low scale scorers for each of these scales

an informed consent form and a debriefing form that explains the nature and true purpose of the study

Psychology students need the ability to create informed consent and debriefing forms that adequately state the purpose of studies to the participants in an ethical manner. In your capstone class (your last class), it is an expectation that you have a created a consent and debriefing form for your research proposal. It could be beneficial if you create this assignment around the topic you would like to research. Before you begin the assignment, view the APA website and read the ethics listings. Using the GCU Library, research consent and debriefing forms. Locate two to four scholarly resources to support your form. Create an informed consent form and a debriefing form that explains the nature and true purpose of the study (students may adapt the examples from the textbook, see pages 65-66). Be sure to cite your sources at the conclusion of the document. While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. This assignment uses a scoring guide. Please review the scoring guide prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
