Some criminologists believe that a person is born a criminal. If this was true what should our society do with the “born criminal”?

Using what you’ve learned this week, respond to the following prompts in your post:

  • The labeling theory emphasizes the significance of society’s response to the criminal, and points to the process through which a person is defined as a criminal as a significant contributory factor in determining future criminality. Using the Internet, examine the career and life of an entertainer that is frequently in the spotlight due to deviant or criminal behavior. (For example, Miles Teller, Robert Downey, Jr., Travis Scott, Chris Soules, Chief Keef, Soulja Boy, Justin Bieber, R. Kelly.) Next, discuss labeling theory and social process theory as it applies to your chosen entertainer. Provide examples that support your response.
  • Some criminologists believe that a person is born a criminal. If this was true what should our society do with the “born criminal”? Justify your response.

Crime-Reduction Strategies”

“Crime-Reduction Strategies”  Please respond to the following:’’

  • Read the article titled “What Can Police Do to Reduce Crime, Disorder, and Fear?” located here. You may also view the article here. Next, select two (2) of the identified strategies and analyze how they relate to crime-reduction effectiveness.
  • Imagine that you are the precinct commander for a mid-sized city. You have been provided with a statistical report which shows there is an increase in the number of burglarizes between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Your precinct is located in an area with two (2) middle schools and two (2) high schools which both release students at 2:30 p.m. each weekday. Speculate on how you would use the precepts of problem oriented policing to develop a plan to tackle this issue. Support your response.

Information from Professor:

For this week you will be looking at two of the six model countries: England, France, Germany, China, Japan, and Saudia Arabia.  Your work this week consists of researching the criminal justice systems in the two countries you select and then compare/contrast two strengths and two weaknesses of those systems as they compare to our system here in the United States.  There is plenty of material from the textbook, the powerpoint and the discussion preparation article for you to draw from to help make your posts high quality.  What will be great about the discussion this week is that (hopefully) we will see all six model countries systems written about and discussed.  This will give us an opportunity to get into these systems and see how to make other systems better.  I’ve included a short video below about the Japanese system to help us get started. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the discussion.

  • Compare and contrast two strengths and two weaknesses of its justice system against that of the United States’ justice system.
  • Suggest one change to each country’s justice system that might improve on the weaknesses that you noted. Provide a rationale for your response.

Create a nonverbal training guide for someone who wants to travel and experience the culture you have been studying in this class. In your training guide, you need to explain what to do and what not to do in nonverbal communication as well as provide explanations for why behaviors are either appropriate or inappropriate (ground your justification in scholarly research on cultural norms). This guide could be in paper, video, or in-class presentation format according to instructor discretion.

  1. The training guide needs to cover each of these nonverbal communication dimensions:
  2. Kinesics
  3. Proxemics
  4. Haptics
  5. Paralinguistics
  6. Chronemics
  7. Physical appearance/attire
  8. Oculesics
  9. Olfactics
  10. The training guide must also include a visual element to illustrate dos and don’ts.
  11. Include specific warnings that address key differences in nonverbal symbols between the culture you are studying and the culture of your audience.
  12. Be sure to included scholarly sources to support claims about what is normal/accepted behavior in the culture.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE WITH MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS? (A MININUM OF 100 WORDS)

CLASSMATE’S POST

The critical path is important to the project schedule and team members because it provides a visual representation of the schedule.  The schedule provides the anticipated start date as well as end date.  While monitoring the schedule, if deviations with time are present or issues arise, the issues could actually change the end schedule and projects strive to stay on time.  So as Turner 2016, suggests, the critical path importance is recorded dates and times of the project which determines:

•Benefits are obtained at a timescale that justifies the expenditure

•Coordination effort of resources

•To enable the resources to be made available with required

•Predict the levels of money and resources required at different times so that priorities can be assigned among projects

•Ability to meet a rigid end date

A key tool utilized by strategic Human Resources professionals is known as a PEST analysis (political, economic, social, and technological). This tool provides a framework to think about over-arching macro-environmental factors. These factors impact the organization, the Human Resources Department/Division, and, ultimately, the employees. This acronym has recently been broadened to PESTLE to include legal and ecological (i.e., climate, weather) considerations. All six macro-environmental factors are clearly interrelated and important.

For this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider how easily an organization’s strategy can be influenced by a PESTLE analysis.

Post by Day 3 your analysis of which one or two macro-environmental factors are most likely to impact or challenge the strategies of an organization’s Annual Human Resources Operating Plan and why. Be specific in your analysis and bring concrete examples into the Discussion.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you learned and/or any insights you gained as a result of your colleagues’ comments.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the LearningResources.

Respond by Day 5 to two or more of your colleagues’ postings by validating an idea or sharing an insight from your own experience.

“The Case of Janet K. and Epilepsy” found on p. 188 of the textbook. Assume for the purposes of this question that Janet did not die of a brain tumor but has consulted an attorney to see what her rights are and what her options might be for bringing a claim against the hospital.

Please be advised that classmate response will be added, as soon as I can download it. Thank you in advance.

  • In this discussion, you get to be the lawyer. Choose one of the two case scenarios below to discuss. Then pick a side. Decide whether you want to represent the employee alleging discrimination (either Janet in Case 1 or Melissa in Case 2) or the hospital defending the claim.
    • Case 1: Read “The Case of Janet K. and Epilepsy” found on p. 188 of the textbook. Assume for the purposes of this question that Janet did not die of a brain tumor but has consulted an attorney to see what her rights are and what her options might be for bringing a claim against the hospital.
    • Case 2: A management position has opened up due to a recent retirement in the medical staff office at the local hospital where you work. You and your pregnant coworker Melissa are talking about it at lunch one day. Melissa is very excited because she has been told several times by different senior managers that the next management position available would be hers. The next day, however, it is announced that a male coworker with less experience, education, and time on the job was offered the position. Melissa feels very strongly that it is because she is pregnant and going on maternity leave in two months. Melissa has an impeccable performance record throughout her employment at the hospital, and other than two weeks of doctor-ordered bed rest for gestational diabetes, she has not missed a day of work during her pregnancy. She has consulted an attorney to see what her rights are and whether there is any action that can be taken against the hospital.
    • Next, write a one-page letter to the other side arguing why your client is right. Set out the facts, the specific law or laws supporting your client’s position, and what your client wants to resolve the situation (for example, a request for a formal investigation, the offer of a promotion, or dropping the claim). In your responses to your peers, reply to at least one classmate who represented the other side in your scenario, explaining why your client has the stronger case. Remember to stick to the facts as presented and to avoid making assumptions or generalizations. A strong legal argument applies the facts to the law to reach a conclusion that supports your position.Your letter should use at least one scholarly or professional source other than the textbook. All sources, including course materials, must be cited according to APA style. To complete this assignment, review the Discussion Rubricdocument.
