Forensic Psychology Discussion Question

After reading about the Sentencing Reform Act of 1984 and the subsequent adjustments ordered by the Supreme Court, consider how these changes impact an individual judge’s view of a “reasonable sentence.” Then, in a post to the discussion board, answer these questions:
Describe how you would tell a “reasonable” sentence from an unreasonable one—what are the hallmarks of a reasonable sentence?
How does a forensic psychologist’s sentencing evaluation affect what would be considered a “reasonable sentence”?
After reading about the changes to the Sentencing Reform Act, do you agree with the Supreme Court decisions to grant more discretion to federal judges? Why or why not?

Essay Instructions

The Essay assignments occur in Module 2, Module 4, Module 6 and Module 8. Each essay should be in APA format and should discuss the required prompt. This assignment does not require a Title page or Abstract page, but does require a Reference page and in-text citations.

Each essay will review a different topic from the text and will also link each topic with Scripture. Each essay should have a word count of at least 500 words.

Using the Jerry Falwell Library, select two full-text, scholarly (peer-reviewed) journal articles that directly relate to the topic for each essay. The textbook may be used, but does not count toward the two required scholarly references.  Essay Topics

Module 2: Examine Adler’s 3 safeguarding tendencies in the text. Select 1 of the tendencies and compare that tendency with instances of safeguarding that you find in Scripture. Demonstrate how that situation would have been improved if safeguarding tendencies were not used.

Module 4: Identify Maslow’s 5 basic assumptions regarding motivation as well as Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs. Discuss each assumption and hierarchy level. Include specific examples from Scripture regarding motivation.

Module 6: Review the section in Chapter 13 titled “In Search of the Big Five” (pgs. 381 – 392) as well as the article “Big Five Personality Factors and Facets as Predictors of Openness to Diversity” (Han & Pistole, 2017). Select one of the Five-Factors and discuss how this factor relates to an open attitude toward diversity as related to Costa and McCrae’s Five-Factor Model of Personality?

Module 8: Analyze the 4 common elements in most human disturbance according to Kelly (threat, fear, anxiety, and guilt). Compare each of these constructs with what Scripture says regarding these particular elements. Selecting Appropriate Journal Articles

If you need assistance finding scholarly journal articles, click here to learn how to navigate through the Jerry Falwell Library.

When searching Liberty University’s online library, from the Jerry Falwell Library home page, select “Advanced Search” and be sure to select the appropriate dates (within the last 7 years).  Under Show Only select the following: “Items with full text online”, “Scholarly materials, including peer-reviewed.” Under Exclude from results: select all three options. To find useful articles, narrow the search by selecting, keywords or phrases to use as your search parameters.

The articles researched must be from scholarly journals. It is preferred that the journal have the word “Journal” in the title (Journal of Marriage and Family, etc.). Ideally, each journal that you review should have a Methods section as well as Data, Results, and Conclusion sections, but these sections are not required. Please note: You may not use book reviews, magazine articles, or online articles that have not been published in scholarly journals.

Need help with the following

Topic: Faith Development  Thread: James Fowler was an American theologian who was the professor of Theology and Human Development at Emory University. He has produced several pieces of literature illustrating his theory of faith development. This week, you will review an article that introduces his stages of faith in relation to the developmental concepts you have learned about in this course. Faith theorists recognize the complex interplay of factors that impact one’s faith development. Development of faith, like other aspects of human development, involves movement from one stage to another and is not always systematic or predictable. Individuals can reach chronologic and biological adulthood while reflecting structural stages of faith that are more indicative of early or middle childhood or adolescence. Spiritual nurturing and practice, combined with a person’s spiritual aptitude and discipline, impacts the pace and depth of faith development.  After reading and reflecting on the article, develop your thread addressing these questions: 1.What are your impressions of faith development in relation to an individual’s other developmental processes? Do you feel that there is interconnection, or do you oppose the idea that successful faith development requires successful development in other areas? Explain your answer using examples and support from the article and/or other sources of information. 2.Using your personal experiences, briefly describe some of the most meaningful characteristics of your faith development process. If there were pivotal moments or notable influences, good and bad, mention the significance of those people or events. Only include the most relevant details. Make sure to relate your thread to elements of Fowler’s faith development theory and your specific experiences.

Topic: Case of Elderly Couple  Thread: Read the Case Study below and then answer the following questions: 1.Consider Lydia’s and John’s cognitive and physical limitations as well as their social support. If you were presenting this case to a team of other human services providers, what developmental theories, concepts, and principles help explain this case? (Use the readings from Modules/Weeks 7–8 to help you answer this question). 2.What other information might you need to fully evaluate the situation in which Lydia and John live? 3.If you were the protective service worker, what are the options for this couple? Identify several feasible plans with explanation and support from a source of information. Include the risks and benefits of each option. Then, identify what your final recommendation would be and why.  Case Study   Lydia and John were a couple in their nineties who lived in their own home and had been married over sixty years. Both were confused and forgetful. They had two sons who were in their seventies and lived in nearby towns. One son was estranged from them. The other was somewhat involved in their lives, but he had a mentally ill wife and health problems of his own to deal with. The couple first came to the attention of a protective service worker when John was hospitalized after a fall. When left on her own, Lydia’s confusion became more pronounced. A referral was made for home care services, but, when a worker went out to assess the couple, their son was present and refused services. Based on concerns of benign neglect, a protective services report was issued. A case worker investigated and substantiated the report, citing the son’s interference with services and the couple’s own inability to provide adequate care for each other. The protective services worker found both John and Lydia to be very forgetful and somewhat confused, though Lydia was the more impaired. Due to their increased physical frailty, they had been using only the first floor of their home. Since the bedrooms and bathroom were upstairs, the living arrangement presented several problems for the couple. Lydia had a regular bed, but John was sleeping on a cot. The low height of the cot caused him to lose his balance easily, resulting in several falls. Since there was no toilet downstairs, they were using a bucket in the kitchen and emptying it outside. They were unable to maintain their home and conditions became unsanitary. The son tried to help, but he had his own limitations. The elderly couple was well able to afford assistance, but they did not want to spend the money. Furthermore, even though the son who helped with paying the bills was not taking advantage of his parents financially, he was obviously concerned with “preserving his inheritance.” Meanwhile, John and Lydia were extremely conservative in terms of how they chose to spend their money; they insisted they could not afford help.

Due in 5 hours

psyc 0nly 500 words

you will be working with the first one last name A-E

In your initial post, you will apply what you learned from each of  the five articles, but you will discuss the findings and implications  for just one of these articles. The articles are assigned based on the  first letter of your last name. Please see the list below to determine  which of the articles you will focus on for your initial post based on  the first letter of your last name:

A through E: “Flexible Retrieval: When True Inferences Produce False Memories” F through J: “Memory Suppression in Alzheimer’s Disease” K through O: “Mnemonic Instruction in Science and Social Studies for Students with Learning Problems: A Review” P through T: “Short-Term Memory and Long-Term Memory Are Still Different” U through Z: “The Development of Real-Time Stability Supports Visual  Working Memory Performance: Young Children’s Feature Binding Can Be  Improved Through Perceptual Structure”

In your initial post,

Explain the empirical research presented in your assigned article, applying appropriate citations and references. Describe, in your own words, how the research relates to your own  experiences as well as how this area of psychology may have affected  your past or current beliefs about memory development. Do the research  findings refute or support your current beliefs, and in what ways? Are  there variables about memory of which you were unaware based on your  article? Apply skeptical inquiry to the potential problems that might arise  from research in the area of memory, and relate it to the APA’s Ethical  Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct. Provide a rationale for whether or not this premise is valid and/or  appropriate based on the findings reported by the assigned articles.

It is recommended that you research articles in the Ashford  University Library to support your assertions if the required articles  do not provide sufficient information. Your initial post should be at  least 500 words in length.

Topic: There’s an App for That!

Your job for this discussion board is to choose a developmental period and design an app that would apply to them. It could be a game, a self-help app, a parenting resource app, etc. For your discussion thread:Describe your app. What is the purpose? How does it work?Identify the target audience for your app (i.e., who you would want to buy/download it).Discuss key developmental markers or characteristics for that age group (include textbook citations).Discuss the key developmental period or elements that this app will address, using citations from your textbook to support the need for your app.

Assignment 1: Stress and Coping

Assignment 1: Stress and Coping

Due by the due date assigned, Complete your participation for this assignment through the end of the module.

There are many different types of stress and various impacts that stressful situations can have on all areas of our health. Review these possible stress-provoking situations.  Sally is a hardworking young professional who was applauded for her work performance and given more responsibility. After a few months there is a rapid decline in her productivity and she is seen withdrawing from work. Sally’s new manager constantly criticizes her for her lack of productivity, which makes her performance worse, and causes her more worry. Nancy is ready to leave the house for work and spills coffee on her clean work clothes. Then, she finds that her car will not start. When she tries to call for help, she realizes her cell phone is disconnected because she did not pay the bill. She starts to cry. Bob found out that one of his best friends just died. The funeral will be held next week. Tom is called at work and told that he needs to pick up his teenage son from school. This is the second time this year that his son has been sent home for fighting. Tom’s boss is not happy that he requests to leave work early. Tracy, a single mother, finds she doesn’t have enough money left to buy food for her children before her next paycheck in two weeks. This is the third time this year she has struggled to put food on the table.

Choose one situation to evaluate and answer the following questions: Does this represent chronic or acute stress? What type of response might the body and brain be experiencing to manage the stressor? What would be the goal for coping with this stress? (eliminate, reduce, tolerate) What type of coping strategy should be implemented—emotion-focused coping or problem-directed coping? How would the individual employ this approach? In other words, using this type of coping strategy, what could he or she do to cope with the stressor? Give 2 examples. Write 2 “coping self-statements” the individual might make in response to this stressor. You will find some examples of coping self-statements in your textbook. What are some of the potential long-term impacts on this individual’s health if he or she does not find a way to cope with this stressor?

Please be sure you address each question, using terms and concepts from your text. A good initial discussion response should be at least 150–250 words in length. In order to earn full credit for participation, you must respond to two or more classmates in a substantive manner before the end of the module.
