Discussion 2: Trauma and Comorbidity

Discussion 2: Trauma and Comorbidity

It is not uncommon for people who experience trauma to use substances to moderate psychological or emotional pain. Trauma can easily add to the strain that people already feel. In this Discussion, you diagnose and plan treatment for a case provided by your instructor (case of Neville find attached).

To prepare: Review the Learning Resources on trauma treatment, including additional resources from the optional resources/media or from the Suggested Further Reading document. Then read the case provided by your instructor for this week’s Discussion.

BY DAY 5

Post a 3- to 5-minute recorded video response in which you address the following (do the transcript):

  • Provide the full DSM-5 diagnosis for the client. Remember, a full diagnosis should include the name of the disorder, ICD-10-CM code, specifiers, severity, and the Z codes (other conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention). Keep in mind a diagnosis covers the most recent 12 months.
  • Explain the diagnosis by matching the symptoms identified in the case to the specific criteria for the diagnosis.
  • Identify the first area of focus you would address as client’s social worker, and explain your specific treatment recommendations. Support your recommendations with research.
  • Explain how you would manage client’s diverse needs, including his co-occurring disorders.
  • Describe a treatment plan for client, including how you would evaluation his treatment.

Conflicting Viewpoints Essay – Part II

Conflicting Viewpoints Essay – Part II

When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view? This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking.

The assignment is divided into two (2) parts.
For Part I of the assignment (due Week 3), you read a critical thinking process: “The Believing Game and How to Make Conflicting Opinions More Fruitful” by Peter Elbow. , reviewed the Procon.org Website in order to gather information, and engaged in prewriting to examine your thoughts.
* Remember that in the Week 2 Discussion, you examined the biases discussed in Chapter 2 of the webtext.

In Part II of the assignment (due Week 5), you will write a paper to synthesize your ideas.

Part II – Writing
Write at three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

  1. State your position on the topic you selected for Assignment 1.1.
  2. Identify (3) three premises (reasons) from the Procon.org website that support your position and explain why you selected these specific reasons.
  3. Explain your answers to the “believing” questions about the three (3) premises opposing your position from the Procon.org website.
  4. Examine at least two (2) types of biases that you likely experienced as you evaluated the premises for and against your position.
  5. Discuss the effects of your own enculturation or group identification that may have influenced your biases.
  6. Discuss whether or not your thinking about the topic has changed after playing the “Believing Game,” even if your position on the issue has stayed the same.

The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:

  • Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
  • Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
  • Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires use of Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
  • Based on the guidelines in SWS, “A well-researched assignment has at least as many sources as pages.” Since this assignment requires you to write at least 3-4 pages, you should include at least 3-4 references.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Identify the informal fallacies, assumptions, and biases involved in manipulative appeals and abuses of language.
  • Create written work utilizing the concepts of critical thinking.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in critical thinking skills and informal logic.

. From talking to people I’ve heard that medical marijuana helps tremendously, I wonder if this will be something that can be recommended during therapy. What do you guy think ?

I don’t understand this Psychology question and need help to study.

Hello Professor and Class,

I live in California, so I conducted a brief search of trending and hot topics in California and the American Psychology Association. I found an interesting topic regarding the need for a non pharmacological pain medications due to the opioid crisis . The Article goes over the history of pain medication and how it first came about back in the late 1990’s. The article says that the best way to treat pain is through CBT. I Definitely feel like this is an interesting topic and this could affect clinical psychology in the future for many ways. For one, psychologist candy much clothes so when monitored, they can also lose privileges, in order to bend the curve and create other methods of treatment. Leave a lot of people really do need opioid pain medication because they are in such bad shape pain wise. From talking to people I’ve heard that medical marijuana helps tremendously, I wonder if this will be something that can be recommended during therapy. What do you guy think ? Thanks,

How might you communicate the needs of vulnerable populations to policy makers who may not share your views about the need for services?

I need support with this Social Science question so I can learn better.

Policy practitioners should know that being forewarned is being forearmed. You should know how to diagnose an audience, develop a persuasive strategy, have a “tactics tool bag” for dealing with difficult or expert audiences, and know how to develop non-confrontational communication methods with audiences when necessary. In short, you need to know how to skillfully defend the creative policy proposal you are about to present and how to talk to policy makers who may not be interested in the issues you are presenting.

In this Discussion, you explore and analyze strategies and ideas for presenting policy proposals.

To Prepare: Think about strategies you can use to persuade others who might not share the same concerns about your issues or your policy proposals. Think about how you might defend your position on an issue or a policy and get them to agree with your perspective. Review Chapter 9 of your text, paying special attention to the section entitled “Combative Persuasion in Step 5 and Step 6” from pages 286-292.

BY DAY 3

Post your responses to the following question:

Policy advocates sometimes find themselves discussing the needs of vulnerable populations with less-than-sympathetic groups of policy makers. Vulnerable populations might include families living in poverty, individuals with histories in the criminal justice system, or groups who have recently immigrated.

How might you communicate the needs of vulnerable populations to policy makers who may not share your views about the need for services?

Be sure to support your post with specific references to this week’s resources. If you are using additional articles, be sure to provide full APA-formatted citations for your references.
