Ethical Problem Solving Model

Must be at least 200 words

This week we are discussing the topic of ethics and morality when it comes to human sexuality.  With that in mind, please choose one of these two topics: Prostitution or Pornography  which many consider a moral issue.

Read the required reading: Ethical Decision Making and then apply the Ethical Problem Solving Model to your topic answering the 5 questions. Please see the model outlined below.

Ethical Problem Solving Model
Answer the five questions when trying to resolve a moral issue:

  1. What benefits and what harms will each course of action produce, and which alternative will lead to the best overall consequences?
  2. What moral rights do the affected parties have, and which course of action best respects those rights?
  3. Which course of action treats everyone the same, except where there is a morally justifiable reason not to, and does not show favoritism or discrimination?
  4. Which course of action advances the common good?
  5. Which course of action develops moral virtues?

Remember that all situations are unique and not one set of rules applies in all cases. (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks, & Meyer, 2015)

In this assignment, you will review infection rate data related to central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), and surgical site infections (SSIs) after colon surgery.

In this assignment, you will review infection rate data related to central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), and surgical site infections (SSIs) after colon surgery. Using the information provided in the Raw Data Example document, prepare a PowerPoint presentation to discuss with the organization’s operational excellence committee.

Think about how the data throughout your readings and course activities to date could have been assembled. Be prepared to cover the following:

  •   How was data was collected, and who collected it?
  •   What fields in the EHR were used to gather the information?
  •   What is the impact of meaningful use on data collection, EHR design, and quality outcomes?
  •   What are the implications of not collecting the data?
  •   What does the data tell you about the quality of patient care from 2015 to 2016? Is the overall infection rate higher or lower in 2016 when compared
    with 2015?
  •   What is leadership’s role in disseminating the information and identifying ways to sustain or reduce the infection rates?
For assistance with developing your presentation, review the Meaningful Use Definition and Objectives webpage and the Raw Data Example document.

Guidelines for Submission: Your presentation should be submitted as a 10- to 15-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation with sources cited in APA format.

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that both summarizes and compares the roles and functions of one governmental and one non-governmental health organization, public or global, for a specific health issue of your choice.

Application Assignment: Cooperate. Collaborate. Connect.

NGOs and other governmental organizations often work side by side on the same problem.

To prepare:

Explore the web pages of the organizations provided in your Learning Resources this week to learn about the work they are doing. Look for one health issue that you can see in both the NGOs and other governmental organizations for this Assignment.

By Day 7

Write a 2- to 3-page paper that both summarizes and compares the roles and functions of one governmental and one non-governmental health organization, public or global, for a specific health issue of your choice. Be sure that your summary includes information about the following:

  • Where are the organizations’ headquarters located?
  • What is the mission or purpose of these organizations?
  • What populations do they serve and what do they do?
  • How are the organizations funded? Are they part of a larger public health infrastructure?
  • Do these organizations mention collaboration with any other agencies or organizations?
  • Are there any major public health issues these organizations are currently focusing on?
  • What might be some ethical issues that are related to the mission of these organizations? (If the organizations have a code of conduct or ethics statement, provide a brief summary in your description).
  • Summarize what you learned in researching these organizations: What were the most interesting things you learned in this application? How are the organizations you selected similar or different?

Select a potential natural or man-made disaster that could happen in your community. Then, write a 3- to 4-page paper about the disaster from the community nurse’s perspective.

Instructions

Select a potential natural or man-made disaster that could happen in your community. Then, write a 3- to 4-page paper about the disaster from the community nurse’s perspective.

Section 1: The Disaster, Man-Made or Natural

What disasters may strike your community and why? For example, do you live in “Tornado Alley,” or has climate change resulted in unusual cold weather snaps or blizzards in your community? Are you located in a flood plain? Include possible diseases that may result from a natural disaster, such as tetanus or cholera.

Section 2: The Nursing Response

Formulate responses to the disaster, considering systems and community levels of intervention.

Review websites where a disaster plan may be available for the public, or if one is not currently available, call public health department to see if a disaster plan exists for your community and what the plan contains.

In addition to reviewing websites for information about your local disaster plan, you will need to locate best practice/evidence-based practice guidelines in professional literature to determine whether your community’s disaster plan is as sound as it might be or if there is room for improvement.

Section 3: Is My Community Prepared for a Disaster?

What conclusions can you draw about your community’s preparedness plan from having completed this evaluation?

The importance of continuous monitoring of information systems.

Continuous monitoring is a critical part of the risk management process. “Continuous monitoring is ongoing observance with intent to provide warning. A continuous monitoring capability is the ongoing observance and analysis of the operational states of systems to provide decision support regarding situational awareness and deviations from expectations.” —Source: Keith Willett (MITRE) in support of the National Security Agency.

“Information Security Continuous Monitoring (ISCM) is defined as maintaining ongoing awareness of information security, vulnerabilities, and threats to support organizational risk management decisions.” —NIST.

Organizations should establish, implement, and maintain ISCM. ISCM should be a recursive process as its monitoring strategy is continually refined so that ISCM is a robust system. Tiered organization-wide ISCM framework and dynamic ISCM processes are proposed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Please scan through the important framework and processes in the following article. Its Appendix D “Technologies for Enabling ISCM” provides some technical and managerial details and examples.

1. What are the major forces that are leading to change in the dental industry and dental practice in the U.S.? How do you see these forces impacting your dental career?

DS 307 Extramural Patient Care

Reflective Paper Instructions

A major goal of DS 307 is to provide didactic and rotation experiences to enhance student’s understanding of underserved populations and community-based systems for improving oral health. To this end, DS 307 hopes to give you the opportunity to experience oral health care outside the walls of the dental school, providing insight into the lives of patients you otherwise may not have encountered and dental delivery systems that are different from the one you experience in the school. These experiences are supplemented by online content. We want you to share insights gained through these experiences by preparing a reflective paper described in our pre-rotation lecture and below. Some of you have rotated in specific extramural clinics at this point, while some of you have not. In preparing this paper, you may also consider other experiences you have had outside of the dental school, whether in an official extramural clinic, in a SCOPE activity, a mission trip, etc.

Assignment: Write a 2-page paper that addresses the following themes:

1. What are the major forces that are leading to change in the dental industry and dental practice in the U.S.? How do you see these forces impacting your dental career?

2. What are the opportunities that you see for the dental industry in general and your career in particular which may be available by serving traditionally underserved populations and partnering with community organizations?

3. Describe challenges people face getting access to dental care in traditional office, or clinic settings (i.e. financial, social, cultural, language, knowledge, medical, mental). Describe a system that may be better able to reach people who face these barriers?

4. Assume you have a contract to improve the oral health of an underserved group that does not traditionally receive dental care in dental offices or clinics (i.e. low income children in pre- schools or elementary schools, people with disabilities living in residential facilities, older adults living in nursing homes, low income children and adults who regularly visit a community center that does not have a dental clinic). You can choose to organize how you serve this population in any way you want. However, you will be paid based on your ability to demonstrate improvement in oral health outcomes for this population. What strategies, (practice design, locations, care team, interventions, partnerships) would you use to maximize your income by producing the best health outcomes at the lowest cost?

For this assignment, you will prepare an informative PowerPoint presentation based on the The Social Determinant in Kansas. 1) First, you will identify the determinant of health and the issues related to it that you are working to address.

For this assignment, you will prepare an informative PowerPoint presentation based on the The Social Determinant in Kansas.

1) First, you will identify the determinant of health and the issues related to it that you are working to address.

2) Next, offer and explain a specific health policy or law that could be enacted to alleviate the issues of the determinant of health. For example, the state of New Hampshire does not have a law requiring persons over the age of 18 to wear a seatbelt. If such a law were in place requiring seatbelt use for persons over the age of 18, motor vehicle fatalities would likely decrease. The policy or law you choose to apply to the social determinant may be an existing one in another area, or you may propose your own policy or legislation. Be sure to include what your proposed policy or law would entail, how it would be enforced, and the effect you hope to achieve once it is in place. Include relevant and specific data as you present the determinant of health and the proposed policy or law.

3) Finally, identify specific officials, businesses, nonprofits, or other stakeholders and players you would need to collaborate with in order to get the change enacted in the community. Explain a plan of how a community health worker could reach out to these players to get support.

Your PowerPoint presentation should show originality and inventiveness, demonstrate a thorough analysis, and be presented in a well-organized and attractive manner. It will be 10 slides, not counting the title and reference slides. Speaker notes must be provided to further explain the information on each slide. You must use at least two scholarly sources. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations. All references and citations must be formatted in APA style.

For this assignment, you will research the population and geographic composition in the (Kansas Community) you have been focusing on in previous assignments and write a case study detailing your findings. Your case study should offer an analysis of the following areas.

1) What are the aspects of various cultures and diversities that exist in the community?

2) How has culture and diversity played a role in the history of the community and its development and progression over time?

3) What suggestions would you have for a community health worker (CHW) to develop cultural competence specific to this community, as well as develop trust and confidence with the diverse population?

4) Identify ways in which a CHW can work toward ensuring health equity for all populations in the community.

Your case study will be a minimum of three pages, not counting the title and reference pages. It should demonstrate insightful and thorough analysis with strong arguments and evidence. Use relevant and specific data to support your analysis. You must use at least two sources. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations. Your case study, including all references will be formatted in APA style.
