Discussion: Medicare, Medicaid, and HIPAA

Medicare, Medicaid, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) have had significant impacts on the healthcare industry. Consider the most significant benefits that Medicare, Medicaid, and (HIPAA) have brought to the healthcare industry and the most significant challenges they have presented to decision making in the industry.

Research Medicare, Medicaid and HIPAA. Identify two benefits as well as two challenges.

Here is an example to get you started below:

Assignment: Application: Taking a Stand

Effective leaders have a high degree of self-awareness and know how to leverage their strengths in the workplace. Assessments are a valuable tool that professionals can use to learn more about themselves and consider how their temperament and preferences influence their interactions with others.

As you engage in this learning process, it is important to remember that everyone—regardless of temperament type or related preferences—experiences some challenges with regard to leadership. The key to success is being able to recognize and leverage your own strengths while honoring differences among your colleagues.

At some point in your leadership career, you will encounter an ethical or moral dilemma that requires you to take a stand and defend your position.

For this Assignment, you evaluate an issue and consider how you could act as a moral agent or advocate, facilitating the resolution of the issue for a positive outcome.

To prepare:

· Consider the examples of leadership demonstrated in this week’s media presentation and the other Learning Resources.

· To further your self-knowledge, you are required to complete the Kiersey Temperament as indicated in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider your leadership style, including your strengths for leading others and include your results from Kiersey Temperament Sorter to describe potential challenges related to your leadership style.

· Mentally survey your work environment, or one with which you are familiar, and identify a timely issue/dilemma that requires you to perform the leadership role of moral agent or advocate to improve a situation (e.g., speaking or acting on behalf of a vulnerable patient, the need for appropriate staffing, a colleague being treated unfairly).

· What ethical, moral, or legal skills, dispositions, and/or strategies would help you resolve this dilemma? Define the differences between ethical, moral, and legal leadership.

· Finally, consider the values and principles that guide the nursing profession; the organization’s mission, vision, and values; the leadership and management competencies addressed in this course; and your own values and reasons for entering the profession. What motivation do you see for taking a stand on an important issue even when it is difficult to do so?

To complete:

Write a 4 to 5 page paper (page count does not include title and reference page) that addresses the following:

· Introduce the conceptual frameworks of the ethical constructs of ethics, moral, or legal standards and the purpose of the paper.

· Consider  an ethical, moral, or legal dilemma that you have encountered in your work environment and describe it.

· Analyze the moral, ethical, and legal implications utilized in this situation. Describe your role as a moral agent or advocate for this specific issue.

· Consider your leadership styles identified by your self-assessment and determine if they act as a barrier or facilitation during this dilemma.

Deliverable 7 – Using Visual Communication to Deliver a Global Message

 Competency

This project allows you to demonstrate your mastery of visual communication concepts discussed in this course.

Scenario

You are newly appointed to the communication team for a reputable philanthropic organization. The current task is for your team to create a global campaign that visually conveys a social message both here in the United States, as well as globally. This visual campaign message will use strategic visual communication to appeal to these differing audiences to reduce and potentially eliminate racial prejudice. Your visual communication campaign will be directed toward audiences from both the United States and another country of your choice.

The board of directors has asked you to assemble four video presentations and one instructional document to submit for their review. They have asked that the total video presentations’ length be under three minutes, and that you present visual examples while verbally explaining the main points of the analysis. You are reminded that four separate links need to be submitted for their review, along with your instructional document for the communication team.

Visual Campaign Elements: Create two ideas for promotional documents (flyers, pamphlets, etc.) to appeal to both your targeted U.S. viewers and to your targeted viewers from the other global country of your choice.
Both of these documents should strategically utilize the following visual communication elements: color lines balance contrast
Create your video presentation for the board members clearly explaining how the visual communication elements on each of the two promotional documents strategically convey the message and meaning to viewers. Be sure to compare and contrast how the viewers from the U.S. and the other country might interpret these differing visuals elements, and how you used them strategically to please each targeted audience. Find two different images to be used on the organization’s website page. One will be for the U.S. website, and one for the website in the country of your choice. Be sure that each of these images visually appeals to these two targeted audience viewers, and that the visual enhances the message to help eliminate racial prejudice. In your video presentation for the board of directors, identify and analyze the visual elements of cultural familiarity, semiotics, and emotional appeal (cognitive). Additionally, explain how each of those visual elements visually persuades the U.S. and global viewers in different ways. Design two logos for this anti-racism campaign. One logo should be designed for U.S. audiences, and the other should be designed for the other country of your choice. Design your video presentation to explain how each of these logos can clearly be seen on both small and large settings (example: cell phone app size and billboard size), as well as a comparison of how the color, lines, and visual elements are specifically designed to visually appeal to each of these different countries Create two social media posts, one for the United States and one for the other country of your choice. The posts should include text, images, and the logo matching the country where the social media post will appear. In your video presentation to the board members, compare and analyze how these visual elements (the images and the logo) emotionally engage and persuade each specified target audience (the United States and the country of your choice) to reduce and eliminate racial prejudice. Create a one-page instructional document for your communication team members outlining the ethical concepts regarding finding and using visuals in communication. Within your instructional document, use images and/or clip art to enhance each of your points in the document, and address the following items: How might the organization properly obtain and use images from outside sources? What are the dangers and problems that arise when altering and digitally enhancing images?

Instructions

The presentation must include a visual and an audio recording using Screencast-O-Matic®, a free audio recording software compatible with PC and MAC computers. Discussion #5 Due tomorrow

Reflect on the role that the electoral process and government plays in one’s daily work and family life. As nurses, health policy can influence both arenas of our lives. What policy issues might drive nurses to lobby Congress and/or get involved in campaign politics? What strategies might nurses use to have their voices heard?

Assignment Mental Health Disorders

Assignment Mental Health Disorders-.

A 38-year-old woman presents to the office with complaints of weight

loss, fatigue, and insomnia of 3-month duration. She reports that she has

been feeling gradually more tired and staying up late at night because

she can’t sleep. She does not feel that she is doing as well in her occupation

as a secretary and states that she has trouble remembering things.

She does not go outdoors as much as she used to and cannot recall the

last time she went out with friends or enjoyed a social gathering. She

feels tired most of the week and states she feels that she wants to go to

sleep and frequently does not want to get out of bed. She denies any

recent medication, illicit drug, or alcohol use. She feels intense guilt

regarding past failed relationships because she perceives them as faults.

She states she has never thought of suicide, but has begun to feel increasingly

worthless.

Her vital signs and general physical examination are normal, although

she becomes tearful while talking. Her mental status examination is significant

for depressed mood, psychomotor retardation, and difficulty attending

to questions. Laboratory studies reveal a normal metabolic panel, normal

complete blood count, and normal thyroid functions.

One example that shows how research uses hypothesis testing is the Physicians’ Reactions experiment, in which physicians were asked how long they would see patients that were either obese or of average-weight (Lane). Researchers found that physicians would see average-weight patients for a mean 6.4 seconds longer. However, since so many variables could contribute to a physician’s decision, the results could have been caused by chance. But through hypothesis testing, the researchers found that there was only a 0.57% chance that the results were caused by luck, consequently verifying the results of their study.
