            Quantitative and Qualitative Research Review 

Choose two scholarly, peer-reviewed nursing articles about research studies. One article must be an example of a qualitative research study; the other must be a quantitative example.

These articles will be utilized for assignments in Topics 3, 4, 6 and 8; they can be found using the GCU Library or any of the sources recommended in the readings.

Write a 350-500-word statement which includes: A description of why each research study is categorized as quantitative or qualitative. A justification for your selections. Rationale for choosing the journal(s) in which the articles were published. A link to the selected articles or an attached copy of each article.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Health Promotion in Minority Populations

Select an ethnic minority group that is represented in the United States (American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian American, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander). Using health information available from Healthy People, the CDC, and other relevant government websites, analyze the health status for this group.

In a paper of 1,000-1,250 words, compare and contrast the health status of your selected minority group to the national average. Include the following:

1.Describe the ethnic minority group selected. Describe the current health status of this group. How do race and ethnicity influence health for this group?

2.What are the health disparities that exist for this group? What are the nutritional challenges for this group?

3.Discuss the barriers to health for this group resulting from culture, socioeconomics, education, and sociopolitical factors.

4.What health promotion activities are often practiced by this group?

  

5.Describe at least one approach using the three levels of health promotion prevention (primary, secondary, and tertiary) that is likely to be the most effective in a care plan given the unique needs of the minority group you have selected. Provide an explanation of why it might be the most effective choice.

6.What cultural beliefs or practices must be considered when creating a care plan? What cultural theory or model would be best to support culturally competent health promotion for this population? Why?

Cite at least three peer-reviewed or scholarly sources to complete this assignment. Sources should be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and public health content.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Identifying A Clinical Question

Write a 1000-1500 word essay addressing each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. There should be three main sections, one for each bullet below. Separate each section in your paper with a clear heading that allows your professor to know which bullet you are addressing in that section of your paper. Support your ideas with at least five (5) sources using citations in your essay. Make sure to cite using the APA writing style for the essay. Identify a clinical question related to your work environment, write the question in PICOT format and perform a literature search on the identified topic. 

Purpose 

To enable the student to identify a clinical question related to a specified area of practice and use medical and nursing databases to find research articles that will provide evidence to validate nursing interventions regarding a specific area of nursing practice.

Review the Application Case Study for Chapter 3: Finding Relevant Evidence to Answer Clinical Questions as a guide for your literature search. 

Guidelines  Identify a clinical question related to your area of clinical practice and write the clinical foreground question in PICOT format utilizing the worksheet tool provided as a guide. Describe why this is a clinical problem or an opportunity for improving health outcomes in your area of clinical practice. Perform a literature search and select five research articles on your topic utilizing the databases highlighted in Chapter 3 of the textbook (Melnyk and Finout-Overholt, 2015).  Identify the article that best supports nursing interventions for your topic. Explain why this article best supports your topic as you compare the article to the other four found in the literature search.

Structure: Include a title page and reference page in APA format. These do not count towards the minimum word count for this assignment. Your essay must include an introduction and a conclusion.

Exhibition of World Art

Imagine you are a curator at your local city’s Museum of Art. You have been asked to organize a small exhibition of objects of art from the cultures of China, Japan, Africa, and the Americas; you will also showcase Islamic art. Your exhibition should include representative objects that highlight significant and essential ideas of each culture. You may plan to include actual objects in your exhibition, or photographs or models of larger structures or sculptures.

Survey your course textbook and reliable internet websites to locate two art objects from each of the following five cultures: China, Japan, Africa, the Americas, and Islam, that you would like to include in your exhibition. Your objects must date to the time period we are studying in this course (Prehistory -1300 CE). You will select a total of ten objects for display in your “Exhibition of World Art.”

Then, write a “museum label “for each object within a Microsoft Word document. The following should be on the “label” for each object: A photograph of the object Identifying information: Name of the artist (if known—otherwise, attribute the culture) Title of the work Date of the work Medium/materials used to create the work Current location A paragraph of 4-5 sentences describing why the object is representative of its culture and is culturally significant. Briefly explain why you have selected the object for display.

Finally, in a paragraph of 8-10 sentences, write a summarizing overview of your “Exhibition of World Art,” highlighting key similarities and distinctions between the objects you have curated. Imagine that visitors to your exhibition will read this overview as they enter your “Exhibition of World Art,” and provide them with any information or context they may need to fully appreciate the objects on display.

“The sample for a rigorous qualitative study is not as large as the sample for a rigorous quantitative study. The researcher stops collecting data when enough rich, meaningful data have been obtained to achieve the study aims” (Grove, Burns, & Gray, 2013). “A substantial sample may be required to generate power sufficient to demonstrate significance” (Grove, Burns, & Gray, 2013) for a quantitative study. “Small scale quantitative studies may be less reliable because of the low quantity of data” (Mcleod, 2018)

Qualitative question: How do eating disorder patients with bulimia nervosa perceive cognitive behavioral therapy during their inpatient stay? Moving forward with this research question I would need patients who are in an inpatient setting, ones with bulimia nervosa, and I would perform interviews with those patients. The questions I would ask would include open ended questions allowing the patients to answer anyway they felt and me not persuading them to answer a certain way causing bias in the study.

Quantitative question: In patients with an eating disorder, specifically bulimia nervosa, how does the side effects of the mental illness affect the patients overall health? If I were to move forward with this question I would need to have patients who are diagnosed with an eating disorder, specifically bulimia nervosa. I would look at the research out there currently showing the different side effects on the body that comes from the disease. I could compare those stats with statistics from an inpatient unit on those eating disorder patients. This way I could show what is the current research on the disease and then have real examples to show for the research.
