Final Paper Outline

Review the Final Paper instructions in Week Five of the online course or in the “Components of Course Evaluation” section of this guide. Then, visit the Ashford Writing Center, within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar, and review the Outline Form page. Format your outline for the Final Paper according to the Outline Form page. Be sure to look at the complete outline on page 2 and not the abbreviated outline on page 1. Include paragraphs in the “explanation” or “so what” section.
 

The outline must contain:  Introduction with thesis statement  At least five body paragraphs  Conclusion  Reference page containing at least three academic      resources, two of which are found in the Ashford Online Library

Late Policy: Written assignments (essays, journals, presentations) are due on the specified days in the course. Written assignments will be subject to a late penalty of up to 10% per day up to three days late. If written assignments are submitted after 72 hours past the due date, instructors can give a penalty up to and including a grade of 0 for the assignment.

Cash Flow Statement Analyis

This week we turn to the last of the major financial statements – the Cash Flow Statement.

1. Locate and post a screen shot of an actual Cash Flow Statement from the latest fiscal year for one of the following companies:
   • Medtronics
   • ServiceMaster
   • Your own Company (or any company you choose)
2. Pick a Cash Flow Statement line item or ratio from the following list:

1. What does this line item or ratio measure and why is it important for Management to understand this number
2. From the Cash Flow Statement, identify the past 4 years of amounts for your line item or ratio. Share this data with the class using a data table or chart.
3. Answer the following questions:
   • What is the trend for this line item or ratio?
   • Has the line item or ratio amount increased or decreased?
   • Is this a “good” or a “bad” thing for this company?
   • What might management do to improve this line item or ratio?

• What preconceptions do I have in my life that might distort my vision of reality (i.e., create cognitive biases)? To help guide your thinking, consider how Dr. Stephen Brookfield’s preconceptions distorted his vision of reality in theStephen Brookfield Critical Thinking video or think about the situation of the prisoners in the cave or Wallace’s analysis of the supermarket.

• What are steps I can take to overcome my distorted vision so that I might learn to understand more about the world?

• Who has enhanced my knowledge of reality?  

• Who has manipulated my mind in relation to reality?  

• How can I break free from the bonds of those who seek to manipulate me?
