Ethics   and Moral Development

  

Prepare: In preparing for this discussion, you should first review   the Week Two required resources that focus on ethics and morals. You will   examine your own development of ethical and moral responsibilities.

 

Reflect: Take a deeper look at your own life and determine which   experiences have inspired ethical and moral reasoning. Were there any huge   influences in this process?

 

Write: For this discussion you will  Explain what it means to be ethical as it relates to        personal, academic, and professional growth. Provide at least one ethical dilemma you have        encountered and describe how the issue was resolved. Describe how your general education courses        influenced your ethical values. Explain why a college-educated person might have        different duties to society than someone not as educated. Support your claims with examples from required        material(s) and/or other scholarly sources, and properly cite any        references. Your initial post should be at least 250 words in        length.

 

Respond to Peers: Review your classmates’ posts, and respond to at least   two of your peers by Day 7. In each response, provide comments that   prompt further critical thinking and insight on your classmate’s   perspective on ethical values as they relate to their personal, academic and   professional lives. Each participation post should be a minimum of 75   words.

Summarize what you learned in one page no more than 250 words, double spaced, 12 point type, one-inch margins with an appropriate header in MLA format (50 points)

This assignment requires you make four questions as if these questions would be used in quizzes or exams to test student learning, and provide solutions to these questions. Format of your questions can be multiple choices, short essays, or computational problems. You need to have at least two formats. Your questions should be drawn from the materials taught after the mid-term exam and from different lectures, ideally one per lecture.

Some rules:

• You cannot have two similar questions/computational problems. If that happens, the second one does not count.
• You can build your questions from regular lecture slides, out of class activity sheets, math problem assignments, end-of-chapter questions and projects. But you CANNOT simply copy from these materials, which will render a zero score. A 90% similarity is also undesirable.
• Providing incorrect solutions will lower your score.
• Copying from textbook but not covered in lecture slides will cause troubles, and so that will lower your score.
• Questions too straightforward get lower score.
• Questions based on materials before the mid-term exam will not be counted.

A good question should be covered in the lecture slides, should not be very straightforward but not overly challenging. The goal is to test student learning-their understanding of the concepts, their grasp of the economic issues and their ability to solve problems. Excellent questions will be rewarded with a bonus (5~10 bonus points). I recommend you make one question after each lecture and then pick the best four and polish further.

New:

• Unclear questions (due to confusing wording, etc.) reduce score. I will hold high standard on this (and you know why).
• For multiple choices, explain the reason why you think it is important for students to distinguish the correct answer from incorrect ones.

  

Ashford 5: – Week 4 – Discussion 1

 

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Reference the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.

 

     

Confidence   Intervals

Many people do not “like” or “trust” single point estimates for things they need measured.  Looking back at the data examples you have provided in the previous discussion questions on this issue, how might adding confidence intervals help managers accept the results better?  Why?

Ask a manger in your organization if they would prefer a single point estimate or a range for important measures, and why?  Please share what they say.
 

Guided Response:  Review several of your classmates’ posts.  Respond to at least two classmates by commenting on whether or not you think adding or using confidence intervals would result in greater acceptance. Explain if you agree or disagree with the role of a confidence interval in the interpretation of the answer.
