To this point, you have submitted the topic, the outline and the bibliography.

In this unit, you need to submit the rough draft, as far as you have gotten, for feedback and improvement, for your final draft.

In Unit 2, you did the below: —

As preparation for the final research paper, you formulated a theory about the correlation between measurable independent variables (causes) and one measurable dependent variable (the effect). Be sure to have at least two independent variables for proposed research paper. This rough draft should include the following four items which serve as the foundation for the final research paper after instructor feedback is given.

Unit 5: 20 points (These steps total to 20 points).

Create a draft of your report including the data. This copy of the data may be in an Excel spreadsheet.

1) Purpose Statement [20%]

In one paragraph, state the correlation and identify the primary independent variables.

State the correlation as in the following:

“The dependent variable _______ is determined by independent variables ________, _________, ________, and ________.”

Identify and defend the “primary” independent variable, or the variable believed to have the strongest impact on the dependent variable:

“The most important independent variable in this relationship is ________ because _________.”

2) Definition of Variables [20%]

For each variable, write a single definition paragraph talking about the variable. Paragraphs should be in this order: dependent variable, primary independent variable, and three independent variables.

In addition to defining the independent variables, defend why each determines the dependent variable.

For the primary independent variable, at least two research sources that discuss the variable also must be cited. These sources need not be technical documents but should contain evidence to justify the relationship between the primary independent variable and the dependent variable. List these sources in the Works Cited (reference) page.

**Note: Citations from encyclopedias, Wikipedia, blogs, abstracts, or non-governmental websites are not acceptable research sources.

3) Data Description [20%]

For each of the variables, at least 30 observations of cross-sectional data must be obtained. Thus for the final research paper, a data matrix that is at least 30 rows by numbers of variables must be presented.

In one paragraph, identify the data sources and describe the data (i.e., which government agencies supply the data, which methods are used to compile them, when they were collected, etc.).

4) Works Cited Page [20%]

The final page of the proposal should be a Works Cited page listing the two research sources for the primary independent variable and the data sources, with a separate citation for each table of data, including specific table numbers for each of the sources.

I have included the topic, outline, and the annotated bibliography for the paper. Now I just need for the rough draft to be written with the data to support it.

Assessment task

Based on the Learning Portfolio assessment, write a 1000 word academic essay addressing the question below. Students should include six (6) to ten (10) scholarly references which include at least three (3) of the  Five Required Resources found on vUWS in the Assessment Tasks sub-folder called Essay  – Week 14, as well as any other references that may help them support their arguments. That is, only references that have been cited in-text should be listed in the reference list.

The essay should have a clear structure which includes:

1.  An introduction that:

a.  Includes a few general statements about the topic to clarify your interpretation of the question;
b.  Includes a thesis statement that presents your position on the topic; and
c.  Outlines the main points that support your position.

2.  A body that:

a.  Includes a series of logically developed arguments that support your position and
b.  Ensures that each argument and/or sub-argument is supported by descriptive, analytical and normative which is elaborated upon.

3.  A conclusion that:
a.  Summarises the main points discussed in the body of the essay;
b.  Restates the thesis statement; and
c.  Includes a final comment that does not introduce any new ideas.

4.  Cohesive text that aids with the logical flow of the arguments presented.

5.  A reference list which is alphabetical order by authors last name and  includes only the resources that are used in the body of the text (i.e. in-text citations)

Once again, the academic essay is made up of three types of paragraphs:

The Introduction (4-6 sentences) includes the Thesis statement

The Support paragraphs (6-8 sentences) thoroughly discuss each of the main points that support the thesis statement.

Conclusion (4-5 sentences) brings the essay to a neat and tidy ending and NEVER introduces any new information.

Assignment:

Step 1: Make any corrections to the MLA and the Introduction paragraph assignment as suggested.

Step 3: Write 4-5 support paragraphs. Each paragraph should focus on one of your main points. From the sources you selected and included in your Annotated Bibliography, you are required to do the following:

1. Use at least four sources (threesources must be from the BCCC database).
2. Use each source in the form of a paraphrase and a quote a minimum of two times. In the end, you should have a minimum of eight in-text citations in your paper.

Step 5: Add the support paragraphs to the document with your corrected Introduction paragraph.

Step 6: Check to make certain everything is formatted correctly i.e. in dent paragraphs, double-space, entire document, use a correct MLA heading with student’s last name and page number in the top right corner of each page, underline or bold Thesis statement, Topic sentences, and concluding sentences.
