Gretza is a school that provides education to children from the elementary level to upper high school. It is guided by the mission that states, “together we succeed” and a vision that is geared towards making the school a top-notch training institution. This mission and vision can only be achieved through positive cooperation between the school management, teachers, learners and parents. This include getting meals from schools, rather than relying on food prepared from homes, which sometimes, may be unhygienic and less nutritious.
Accordingly, learners may be affected by such meals, thus, the need to work towards encouraging them to prefer school-made meals over home-made lunch. Although the process may not be that easy, the management is determined to work collaboratively with qualified practitioners to train its staff and ensure the food prepared in school sale itself to students without being forced. Precisely, the management is working towards providing students with attractive meals in terms of quality, quantity and price Rajbhandari-Thapa, J., Keong, F., Palmer, W., Hardy, T., & Welsh, J. (2017).
The stimulating factor for the decision to ensure students get their meals from the school was due to their preference to home-prepared meals. However, when student leave their respective homes, it is the responsibility of the school management to ensure their safety. This could not be achieved adequately if each individual is allowed to source food from different places, whose level of hygiene remain unknown. Such meals render learners vulnerable to health-related complications that might compromise the normal learning sessions, thus, inhibiting the realization of its mission and vision.
The study aims at improving the quality of meals offered at school to encourage students gain preference over home-made meals. The participants will include the manager of the cafeteria, the kitchen staff, and stakeholders. Each participant will play a unique role in ensuring the attainment of the main objective. As such, they are expected to pay close attention to the trainers, as well as offer positive collaboration in the implementation process. This supposition keeps in mind the democratic form of leadership practiced at Gretza. Thus, the majority will always win. Those who may have a contrary opinion will be expected to follow suit, but they will be allowed to offer suggestions for future adjustments to meet the needs of everybody.
The following research questions will offer guidelines for the attainment of the set goals:
I. Why do learners prefer home-made lunch over the meals prepared at school?
II. Has the school management taken appropriate measures to handle the current problems that have caused dissatisfaction of students in school meals?
III. Are there plans to improve the quality of meals in the future in case the current implementation does not convince students as anticipated?
