Assessment Task 1 : Blog post Rubric – Assessment Criteria

Write a professional blog article on how forces (trends) in the business environment require organizations/companies to be innovative, using examples, data, and image(s) as evidence for your claim. Ensure the arguments within your blog article are supported by credible theory, evidence, and examples.

To do so, select one or two of the forces that we examined in week one and draw on external, real-world information as well as one or two other relevant concepts from the first weeks of the course to make your argument.

Examples:

You might select the environmental forces and trends that require an   innovative response from a company/organization and discuss what type of decision-making model (e.g. rational, real world     complications, or contingency) and business paradigm(s) would    support such an innovative response.

OR

You might select technological and socio-cultural forces and trends that    require an innovative response from a company/organization and       discuss which strategic innovative respond (e.g. limpet, cautious,   or innovative) and what business paradigm(s) would support such an innovative response.

OR

You might select economic and technological forces and trends and discuss the type of management theory (e.g. theory X, Y, or Z) and the type of business decision (e.g. strategic, tactical,        operational, or micro) that would support an appropriate innovative     response.

Your blog post will also need to conform to an appropriate presentation format, including correct citing of references, structure of the post, and an appropriate headline.

Imagine you are advising a company (from a country and an industry of your choice) that is considering expanding business to foreign countries. 1. Choose a developing country and a developed country and undertake in-depth research and analysis of both countries. 2. Critically analyse what factors need to be taken into consideration in deciding where and which entry mode is most appropriate. Apply relevant academic theories to illustrate your answer.

Instructions

1. When marking your essay I will be assessing your knowledge and understanding of the theories and concepts needed to answer your essay question and your ability to apply this understanding to real cases/examples.

2. The maximum word-count is 3000 words , excluding references and appendices.

3. Essay Structure:

Introduction: states what question is being addressed in the essay and why it is interesting and important. An essay question can be answered in different ways so say how you plan to answer the question. You also need to indicate what the structure of the essay will be.

Main Body : This is where your arguments are developed fully. Make sure that your arguments are set out in a logical order and that any of your opinions follow from the line of reasoning that you have followed. It is important to sum up an argument before going on to the next section, or start a new section with a summary of what has been argued so far. This allows the reader to keep up with the thread of your argument. When using data and diagrams, make sure that you use material that is relevant to your argument. Sub-headings are often useful as a guide to the reader. Above all you must make sure you answer the essay question .

Conclusion : In this section you should summarise the main arguments you have made, bringing them together into a final overview.

Referencing : Make sure that you reference your essay correctly. Avoid using expressions such as “it is said…” or “some people argue …” – instead discuss the specific arguments of named authors. Also avoid long quotes from a publication (this suggests that you have not understood the author you are quoting): it is important to have the key ideas in your own words. Only refer to works that you have consulted yourself. Essays are checked for plagiarism .

Identifying Resources

Collapse

Identifying Resources

Strategic planning and the alignment of resources is critical for nurse leaders to determine if a strategic plan is realistic and achievable (Sare & Ogilvie, 2010). If a budget and timeline are not evaluated during the development of a strategic plan, failure will most likely be the result. This discussion will explain specific resources that will be necessary to address the weaknesses and threats that could impact the development of a Level IV Epilepsy Center. The resources needed to capitalize on the opportunities and strengths will also be identified to explain how these resources can be leveraged to carry out the strategic plan to draw in revenue through the development of a Level IV Epilepsy Center.

Financial, Personnel, and Time Resources

Budgets help leadership outline a financial plan that estimates expenses as well as income generated for a specific period; however if the budget is inaccurate, a strategic plan will not get the most efficient utilization of its resources (Marquis & Huston, 2017). Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare (GCSH) is a non-profit organization and relies on donations when planning budgets. Being a non-profit organization can limit the budget to develop a Level IV Epilepsy Center which is why a partnership with a larger foundation that already has a Level IV Center is the most realistic option at this time. Partnering with a larger, well-known foundation can draw in more donors that will specifically donate to the strategic plan. The opportunity to partner with the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota (EFMN) also serves as a financial opportunity to contribute to the budget because their support can generate buzz with other organizations that will provide financial support.

Threats to the strategic plan included program timing and competitors in the area. Gillette is already well known for is pediatric specialty care for children with epilepsy. Pulling from a new pool of patients who have either not established care or who seek care at other organizations will be challenging, however, because there is only one other Level IV Epilepsy Center dedicated to pediatric patients in Minnesota, GCSH has the opportunity to develop a program that matches the high level of care it already provides to patients. Gillette has numerous accolades including the Beacon Award for Excellence and is certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) in both pediatric specialty and brain injury programs. Gillette is also a member of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) and is certified as a Level III Epilepsy Center, so the communication and advertising of GCSH’s ability to service Level IV patients will be relatively streamlined, especially for patients who are seeking care for the first time for their epilepsy.

The strengths and opportunities include engaged employees, GCSH’s long-standing history as the nation’s first pediatric hospital for children with disabilities, as well as its membership with the NAEC all place GCSH in alignment for maximizing the potential for the success of the Level IV Epilepsy Center partnership. Engaged employees will be less resistant to change and more willing to train or achieve their neuroscience registered nurse certification (CNRN). According to the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses (AANN) (n.d.) nurses who are certified demonstrate to patients that GCSH is dedicated to providing expert care (AANN, n.d.).

Utilizing the SWOT analysis can leverage all of these resources, including the weaknesses and threats because it allows the nurse leader to thoroughly review the resources available and develop a timeline for achieving the desired goal (Huston, as cited in Laureate Education, 2013h). The fiscal and time commitments necessary to achieve the strategic goal of creating a Level IV Epilepsy Center will require a detailed timeline, however, Huston (as cited in Laureate Education, 2013h), recommends not stressing over a specific timeline, but to allow time to be a resource to guide the strategic plan to the desired goal with a bit of flexibility. The timeline allotted for my strategic plan will allow for data analysis, presentation of the partnership contract, staff and provider education, installation of new information technology, development and implementation of new policies and protocols, and target dates for patient trials and go-live.

______________________________________________________________________________

Throughout the course we will be looking at different elements of cultural anthropology, focusing in the second part of the course on various aspects of human culture as they are practiced by societies in different parts of the world.

Because all human beings were raised and carry out their daily lives within their own particular culture, some of the practices and beliefs of another culture might at times seem “odd”, even “bizarre” (or worse), at first glance and in isolation.  Viewed within their full cultural context, however – i.e., within the overall cultural system of a society, including that society’s beliefs, values, other practices, and even the environment in which they live – the meaning and purpose of different cultural conventions may become more understandable and/or logically consistent with other aspects of the cultural system within which they are practiced.

For this second assignment, you are to examine some aspect of the beliefs and practices engaged in by other cultures.   In brief and in general (see below for more details) – after describing the cultural practice, place it in its cultural context by relating it to other aspects (including other practices, beliefs, values, and so on) of that culture. This assignment is designed to test your ability to set aside your own personal feelings (which will be based on your own cultural norms and values) and to objectively describe and explain the meaning and significance of practices engaged in by members of another culture, regardless of how extreme or even unacceptable they might seem to you.  And admittedly, this can sometimes be hard to do, even from the anthropological perspective of cultural relativism .

Cultural relativism refers to viewing the cultural practices of others within the context of their own culture and cultural beliefs.  Adopting a relativistic perspective means not judging the behavior and beliefs of others according to the values and standards of our own cultures.  This can be hard to do sometimes and anthropologists often differentiate between methodological relativism and moral relativism . Methodological relativism refers to adopting an objective, value-free approach to observing and describing the beliefs and practices of other cultures, such as in the course of conducting fieldwork and writing up their findings.  Adopting a position of moral relativism can often be more difficult (even to anthropologists) as it implies that there are no absolute universal standards – e.g., concerning human rights – by which to judge certain practices as “right” or “wrong” – i.e., “morality” (along with other cultural beliefs and values, such as those concerning “appropriate” foods to eat and clothing to wear) is culturally specific and what is “wrong” in one culture may be “right” in another.

Evaluate your feelings on this subject by examining a cultural practice that may seem extreme to you and/or that others have protested against and/or may be illegal in other cultures – for example, bride kidnapping, polygamy, child brides, female genital mutilation (also referred to as female genital cutting or circumcision), suicide bombing (which can include Japanese kamikaze pilots in World War II), scarification and other rigorous puberty rituals or initiation rites for boys and girls entering adulthood, honor killings and capital punishment.  Other possibilities include human sacrifice and human cannibalism, for which you may have to research a past culture, as these practices are rare to nonexistent today.  There are other possibilities as well, of course, but please see me if you have any questions about an appropriate topic as it must pertain to the assignment, which is to pick something that is, or could potentially be, controversial and/or illegal in some cultures to explain the reasons for the practice from the perspective of the people who engage in it.

For your report:

Begin by describing the practice using the perspective of methodological cultural relativism – i.e., provide an     objective, value-free, fact-based description of what the practice entails, including who it involves, the occasions on which it is     carried out, the techniques or means by which it is carried out.          And so on, as is appropriate or pertinent to the practice you have         chosen.

Then place the practice in its cultural context – i.e., what does      it mean to the people who practice it.  Why do they do it?  Why is     it important in their culture?

Other things to possibly consider (if relevant to the practice you have chosen):

If possible or pertinent, discuss how people in the culture feel              about the practice – i.e., does everyone in the culture agree           with the practice/see it the same way; who agrees/who             doesn’t/why/why not?

Do you perceive any logical in consistencies between the             explanation or rationale for this practice and the overall cultural                 context (i.e., beliefs, values, other practices) of the culture          that practices it?

And so on, as is appropriate to the practice you have chosen.

Then consider – in your opinion :Is it possible for you (and/or right for others) to adopt a perspective of moral cultural relativism when it comes to this particular practice – i.e., do you think that it violates some fundamental human right         (and if so, how so) or does the importance of this practice within the culture who engages in it supersede the moral objections of        outsiders (and if so, how so).  And so on, as is appropriate or     pertinent to the practice you have chosen.

managerial accounting exam 25 questions
