Research Proposal-Topic: Bullying and State and Federal Laws

Research Proposal

Topic: Bullying and State and Federal Laws

Is there enough being done in the states and on a Federal level to prevent bullying in the schools? I live in CT and the Sandy Hook tragedy will forever be embedded in my mind. Has enough been done in Connecticut to make sure this never happens again? Why do these things happen more in the USA than any other country?

1. Introduction. This is where you have your statement of research topic (include your

research question in this section) and introduction to the proposal.

2. Literature Review*: Using various sources, write an integrated literature review on

your research topic. In this literature review, make sure you provide conceptualization of

your key term(s) and talk about the contributions of this proposed research (the “so what”

question.

3. Methodology plan*: This is where you talk about your operationalization. Make sure

that you discuss your methods plan in detail. You should talk about the type of data you

will be collecting, how it will be collected, what sort of sampling you will use, and how

you plan to analyze the data.

4. Ethics statement: Briefly discuss what sort of risks, ethics considerations you will

consider and how you plan to deal with them.

5. Statement of limitations: Briefly discuss anything that the research plan will not be

able to cover. This doesn’t mean that you are admitting that the research plan is flawed;

it means that you’ve considered the decisions that you are making in your research plan

and what is feasible for this proposed research.

MAKE SURE:

You need at least 4 academic sources. This is particularly helpful in the literature review. You should also utilize the information (and use proper citations) from the text.

* Main sections of the proposal

  • History of Culture: Highlight the history of this culture and the contributions of this culture within an educational setting.
  •  Inclusionary Practices: Generate a list of inclusionary curricular and instructional practices that all staff could employ to ensure cultural acceptance/integration for this group.
  • Parent/Community Involvement: Provide suggestions for including parents in the learning process (e.g., ensuring parents feel accepted and welcome) and align these suggestions to the characteristics of the culture selected.

By completing this Summative Assignment, you will demonstrate your abilities with the following objectives:

  • Apply teaching techniques and strategies that incorporate respect for all cultures.
  • Illustrate socio-historical impacts on language and culture in education.
  • Discriminate the contemporary context of prejudice.
  • Examine educational practices of the school system as it relates to different groups.
  • Justify the importance of parent and community involvement in the school.

Part 1: The Task

Imagine you are the team leader of your school’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) regarding a specific student cultural population on campus. Your school’s principal has asked that you create an online presentation about this population.

You are receiving this assignment at the end of the school year with the expectation that you will present it at the start of the upcoming school year. Additionally, you will have both new and tenured staff that will receive your information. This presentation will be available to all faculty, staff, and administration.

The goals of both the written paper and presentation are to address the following:

  • Overview of Culture: Discuss the culture in terms of behavior, social values, family values, gender roles, academics, and traditions from the perspective of someone from that culture.

Part 2: Written Paper

  • Prepare a written paper that addresses each of the four goals listed above. The content should consist of approximately 10 pages  It is recommended you use the goals labels as headings for each section of your content for the paper as follows:
    • Overview of Culture
    • History of Culture
    • Inclusionary Practices
    • Parent/Community Involvement

Correlation

In this post, you will be challenged to look at how statistical tests, such as correlation are commonly used and the possible limitations of such analyses. In addition, you will need to identify the appropriate application of course-specified statistical tests, examine assumptions and limitations of course specified statistical tests, and communicate in writing critiques of statistical tests.
Much has been written about the relationship between students’ SAT test scores and their family’s income.  Generally speaking, there is a strong positive correlation between income and SAT scores.  Consider and discuss the following questions as you respond:

  • What does this correlation tell you?
  • Is this correlation evidence that having a high family income causes one to have high SAT scores?
  • Is this correlation evidence that high SAT scores are a cause of higher income? Or, does this tell you something else?  Explain your answer.
  • Explain why correlation alone is rarely sufficient to demonstrate cause.

506 unit 4 Discussion

Your active participation in discussion threads is critical to the development of your understanding of the main concepts studied in this unit. Further, posting detailed responses allows your professor to guide your thinking and your classmates to respond to your ideas. Please participate as early in the week as possible, and be sure to share your thoughts and ideas as often as you can throughout the unit.

Respond to both of the threads below. Your original response should be at least 350 words and should reflect the fact that you have completed the assigned readings for the week. Remember, this is your chance to illustrate not only your understanding, but also your mastery of the materials for the unit. Use your words wisely so the posting has substance and includes examples and explanations. Limit the use of direct quotes, and do your best to critically evaluate and synthesize the literature in your own words wherever possible. Make sure to include in-text citations and a reference list as appropriate.

In this unit, we will discuss physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development through the study of neuroscience, Piagetian theory, Eriksonian, theory, social learning theory, and the expression of cognitive skill through play.

Discussion 1 of 2 at least 350 words

During early childhood, the brain reaches about 70% of its total weight with the growth of white matter (protects the brain) and grey matter (responsible for covering cerebral regions). However, the grey matter cells still need to be connected in order to activate the full function of the brain. There are a number of different areas of the brain that will connect during the early childhood period of rapid growth. Using your understanding of brain development and Piaget’s pre-operative stage of cognitive development, respond to the following scenario.

Early Childhood Interventions

You work as an early childhood specialist with an at-risk population of children through Head Start. One of your job functions is to assess children for possible developmental learning delays. To do this, you have to understand how poor nutrition, exposure to infectious diseases, and lack of parental knowledge related to accessing services could interfere with the cognitive development of young children.

Using your knowledge of basic brain development and Piagetian theory, respond to the following questions.

  1. What developmental problems do you expect children in your Head Start program to have because of living in a lower socio-economic neighborhood? Explain your response using support from the readings.
  2. According to Piaget, children ages two to seven are in the pre- operative stage of development. Using the scenario above, explain the importance of make-believe play and its uses in working with children. Create a plan for using play with three-year-old clients that would allow you to assess cognitive development.

Discussion 2 of 2 at least 350 words

Because young children’s cognitive systems are still immature, particularly their prefrontal cortex (center of planning and logic), they tend to express emotions as soon as they are felt. Their limbic systems (activates emotions) develop earlier in life than parts of the cerebral cortex, so one of their important tasks is learning to identify and appropriately express emotions. Socializing becomes more important, and they further develop their sense of self through these interactions. Keep this in mind as you respond to the following questions.

  1. Research child-raising practices of the culture of your choice and predict their psychosocial development (Erikson’s theory) based on your research. Be sure to support your ideas using specific information from the initiative vs. guilt stage of development.
  2. Using the same research that you collected for the first question, develop a plan to help parents (of your chosen culture) teach their young children appropriate ways to express their aggression. Use your understanding of social learning theory to create your plan.

Assignment Developmental stages Pick and choose one

For this Assignment, select one developmental stage, such as infancy — ages birth to 2; early childhood — ages 3 to 6; middle childhood — ages 7 to 12; or adolescence — ages 13 to 18. Identify the physical, social, and cognitive changes that occur during that stage of development. Be sure to discuss at least one theory that fits best with the stage of development you have selected. Describe the theory and explain how it appropriately fits with your selected developmental stage. Finally, discuss the impact that cultural factors could have on your selected stage of development.

  • Please type your project using 12-point Times New Roman font and double-spacing.
  • This project should be 700–900 words in length.
  • You must refer to the reading resources and provide a citation using the APA format in the form of in-text citations for any sources used.
  • Remember to include a title page at the start of, and a reference list at the conclusion of, your essay. .

200 to 300 words in length

Chapter 6 explores the role of symbols in conveying literary themes. Themes are abundant in literary works (though they are at some times more obvious than at others). Select one short story from the reading assignments (from either Week One or Week Two) to examine more closely in relation to symbolism. Consider the story’s overall theme(s) and use of images as well as how these two relate to one another. You may choose to explore one single recurring symbol, or you may discuss multiple symbols and how they relate to one another.

At the beginning of your post, identify (a) the literary work that you will analyze and (b) the theme(s) that is/are most relevant to the symbolism you will explore.

Initial posts must be 200 to 300 words in length. Story below.

Story of the Lost Son

Gospel of Luke

There was once a man who had two sons. The younger said to his father, “Father, I want right now what’s coming to me.”

So the father divided the property between them. It wasn’t long before the younger son packed his bags and left for a distant country. There, undisciplined and dissipated, he wasted everything he had. After he had gone through all his money, there was a bad famine all through that country and he began to hurt. He signed on with a citizen there who assigned him to his fields to slop the pigs. He was so hungry he would have eaten the corncobs in the pig slop, but no one would give him any.

That brought him to his senses. He said, “All those farmhands working for my father sit down to three meals a day, and here I am starving to death. I’m going back to my father. I’ll say to him, Father, I’ve sinned against God, I’ve sinned before you; I don’t deserve to be called your son. Take me on as a hired hand.” He got right up and went home to his father.

When he was still a long way off, his father saw him. His heart pounding, he ran out, embraced him, and kissed him. The son started his speech: “Father, I’ve sinned against God, I’ve sinned before you; I don’t deserve to be called your son ever again.”

But the father wasn’t listening. He was calling to the servants, “Quick. Bring a clean set of clothes and dress him. Put the family ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Then get a grain-fed heifer and roast it. We’re going to feast! We’re going to have a wonderful time! My son is here—given up for dead and now alive! Given up for lost and now found!” And they began to have a wonderful time.

All this time his older son was out in the field. When the day’s work was done he came in. As he approached the house, he heard the music and dancing. Calling over one of the houseboys, he asked what was going on. He told him, “Your brother came home. Your father has ordered a feast—barbecued beef!—because he has him home safe and sound.”

The older brother stalked off in an angry sulk and refused to join in. His father came out and tried to talk to him, but he wouldn’t listen. The son said, “Look how many years I’ve stayed here serving you, never giving you one moment of grief, but have you ever thrown a party for me and my friends? Then this son of yours who has thrown away your money on whores shows up and you go all out with a feast!”

His father said, “Son, you don’t understand. You’re with me all the time, and everything that is mine is yours—but this is a wonderful time, and we had to celebrate. This brother of yours was dead, and he’s alive! He was lost, and he’s found!”

World View Chart Assignments
Due Weeks 2 through 10 and worth 35 points each week, with a total of 315 points.

A world view is a fundamental or basic orientation of thinking – like a mindset – which guides a culture and / or a person’s life. Like a point of view, it can be built of concepts, ideas, values, emotions, and ethics. Weltanschauung is the German word for this idea. Your goal for this course is to understand the world views of these various religions. In order to prepare you for your final assignment, you will outline the world views of various religions in the chart below, adding to it each week.

For this assignment, students will complete the weekly area of the chart, filling in the aspects of each religion as it is presented in the readings and resources. This chart, when complete, will be the starting point for the written assignment, due in Week 10.

For each weekly submission:

  1. Review the weekly lectures and supplemental materials provided, then complete the chart by elaborating on each section related to the weekly content.

Operant Conditioning and Superstitions

LASA 1—Operant Conditioning and Superstitions

Many people believe that superstitions are absolutely true. This often causes them to believe and act in ways that are out of the norm either to avoid a negative outcome or to bring about a positive outcome. However, the origins of all superstitions lie in operant conditioning (for example, wearing the same shirt worn during a victory game to all future games in order to ensure victory).

In this assignment, you will examine the process by which operant conditioning can lead to the formation of a superstition.

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the development of operant conditioning and its basic principles. Then, address the following:

  • Describe the historical antecedents of operant conditioning. What factors led to the rise of operant conditioning?
  • Describe the principles/concepts which can be applied to explain the process by which operant conditioning can lead to the development and maintenance of superstitions.
  • Brainstorm to come up with a number of superstitions you may have heard or read about. Using your knowledge and vocabulary of operant conditioning, choose one of these superstitions. Then, describe in detail, the thinking processes involved that resulted in the acquisition and perpetuation of this irrational belief.
  • Describe a specific aspect of the operant conditioning process that leads to these beliefs becoming so deeply ingrained and long standing in nature.
  • Explain whether a person can ever be rid of superstitions. What methods can be used to help such a person?
  • Interview a family member or friend to discover a superstition that he or she believes in. Explain the nature of the event that led to the formation of this superstition. Does this information fit with your understanding of how the operant conditioning process results in the development of superstitions? Why or why not?

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. The paper should be double-spaced and in 12 point, Times New Roman font with regular one-inch margins and free of typographical and grammatical errors. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title page and a reference page. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

By October 22, 2013, deliver your assignment to the M3: Assignment 2 Dropbox.
