Develop a PowerPoint Handbook of Suggestions

Parent Handbook

Your good friends have just adopted a four-year-old child. At this point, the only socialization decision they have made is that the child is going to preschool. Imagine that you are an expert in your chosen field. Your friends have come to you for advice and to devise a plan to raise their child. They ask you to be frank with them and give them specific examples to support your opinions. They are determined to raise this child to the best of their ability. Since they are new parents, they need advice on everything!

The summative assignment is to develop a user-friendly PowerPoint handbook of suggestions. The handbook will demonstrate your understanding of the material by applying the major topics discussed in the course to a real situation.

The PowerPoint presentation for the Final Project must include:

  1. Title slide (one slide)
  2. Introduction of the material for the new adoptive parents (one to two slides)
  3. At least 15 slides summarizing each of the items listed below (one to two slides for each item). Please note that the content of each slide should appear in the notes section, while the slide itself should contain the information that would be presented to the parents.
  4. An image that represents each item
  5. Conclusion slide that clearly explains why the parents should review this material (one to two slides)
  6. Reference slide with at least three scholarly sources and the course text properly cited (one slide)

Writing the PowerPoint Presentation of the Final Project

  1. Summarize Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model and describe why it is important for them to be aware of this theory (one to two slides).
  2. Suggest and explain a parenting style/philosophy (authoritarian, authoritative, or permissive) that you believe will be most beneficial for the child and the family (one to two slides).
  3. Explain which childcare (nanny, center-based, or family-based care) option (before/during/after preschool) you think is best for the child and why (one to two slides). Be sure to include discussion of the social factors that influence the likelihood of the family selecting a particular form of childcare.
  4. Share specific suggestions, including at least two to implement safe technology use in the home. Explain how the media can (both positively and negatively) influence the child (one to two slides).
  5. Discuss the importance of culture and ethnicity in the development of the self-concept. Share your ideas of ways that the new parents can create opportunities for the child to learn about his or her culture (one to two slides).
  6. Describe at least two researched methods to increase the child’s self-esteem and positive attitude (one to two slides).
  7. Differentiate between the importance of socialization that occurs in the home and at school. Explain the importance of each venue as a positive haven for the child (one to two slides).
  8. Explain the importance of the teacher’s role in the child’s life. Give examples of how the school and the teacher will affect the child’s socialization (one to two slides).
  9. Share the importance of positive peer interactions. Give two examples for the parents to implement at home to foster friendships (one to two slides).

The PowerPoint presentation must include a minimum of 15 slides (not including the title slide and reference slide). Students are encouraged to creatively address the material and include graphics, visuals, charts, graphs, and/or sound. Slides should be designed to clearly and concisely address the material. The PowerPoint presentation must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Include a title slide, reference slide, and citations within the slides when appropriate. Students must use at least five scholarly sources and the course text

Philosophy Paper, 5 Pages

compare my philosophy to Descartes and also Plato.

My personal philosophy is “if you fall get back up”
We have to expound on our philosophy(challenged or supported by Plato) but consider the following:

Descartes seriously calls into question speculation taken to be certainty. He offers what turns out to be a circular proof for gods existence (innate ideas of God and perfection demand the existence of God, and an existing God guarantees the veracity of these innate ideas. Without proof, philosophers such as David Hume undermine the proof as well as the assumption that a cause must be equal to or greater than its effect(s). In the light of this, reevaluate your views and provide a logos (rational argument) for your beliefs, OR acknowledge that you need to revise them in part or completely.
-Assignment must be turned in with quotes and work cited page, and with reflection on your own view, with references from Descartes, Plato/Socrates.

Descartes claimed to have severely challenged all philosophy before his time and replaced it with a foundational philosophy of certainty. He used the dream argument to question the objective knowledge of all perceptions, and the evil genius argument to raise doubt about the certainty of mathematics and logic. He holds that he reconstructs the edifice of philosophy starting with his proof of gods existence through his use of the innate idea of perfection and the assumption that a cause must be equal to or greater than its effects. He ends with the recovery of the world(as perceived in ones consciousness), but only as primary qualities ( those qualities the mind perceives that are open to quantification– for only perceptions confirmed by mathematics can be known with 100% objective certainty. What is not certain, hence subjective, is all that Cannot be quantified, including color, sound, taste, smell, touch, and any speculative personal belief (which includes faith statements about religion)

Personal Reflection on the Meaning of Literature and Your Relationship to It

Describe your personal relationship to literature and to reading. Begin by considering the meaning of literature. What does the term literature mean to you? What makes something literary in your own mind? If literature means different things to different people, who defines what is and what is not literature?

Next, reflect on your relationship to reading and literature. What kind of reading engages/interests you? What about that writing draws you in? Do you find meaning in reading certain writing? If so, describe the satisfaction you draw from this process. Also consider how you read. Do you, for example, take notes or mark text as you read, or do you simply absorb the material on a page?

There are no right or wrong answers to your response. This discussion is an opportunity to reflect on what literature is to you, as well as to consider the many meanings that literature may have for others in the class.

he Process Analysis Essay

Definition:  A process analysis essay either tells us how to do something or tells us how something works. What’s a process?  The step by step movement from a beginning point to an end point.  A process happens in real time.  Examples of a process analysis are recipes or how to instructions:  how to make toast or how to change the oil in your car.

Parts of a Process Analysis Essay

A successful process analysis essay will do more than simply identify the steps.  It will also:

1.

Explain the steps in great detail

2.

Define any terms/concepts that readers may not be familiar with

3.

Offer clear descriptions of tools, materials, or actions

4.

Explain any possible problems or difficulties

5.

Warn readers of what NOT to do

Structure:  A process analysis essay will be structured with an introduction, body, and conclusion.  Each section should do the following:

Introduction: Does NOT identify any steps.  Its purpose is to introduce the subject (the process) to the reader, identify why the process can be important, and, possibly, explain how you came to understand this process.  End the intro with your thesis (the main point of the essay) which should identify the process and your main point about it.

Body: Explains the process step by step.  Do NOT simply list the steps.  Each one gets fully explored using the list above.  Also, use transitional expressions of time.  (first, second, after, next, then, finally, etc.)

Conclusion: Does NOT include any steps.  Instead, close out the essay by getting more general and explaining, if you have not already, the importance of the process or how it could help/affect the reader or some other closing strategy.

Steps for Writing a Process Analysis Essay

(Note: these directions ARE a process analysis!)

Step 1:  Pick a subject.  Be sure the subject is a process (something you can order by steps) and not something that needs defining.

For ex:  How to Plan a Vacation (a process—it has steps in time)

For ex.: How to be a Successful Student (a definition—you will identify characteristics

rather than steps.  This is not a process.)

Sample processes: How to find the perfect roommate

21 Days to get in Shape

How to plan the perfect party

How to pitch a tent in the rain

How to housebreak your dog

Step 2:  Do an outline in which you organize the steps.

Step 3: Write a first draft. Be sure to include not just the steps but also definitions, descriptions, warnings or possible problems, and lots of details!

Step 4: Re-read and make changes to content, adding details and transitions, cutting unfocused

discussion, re- organizing and adding paragraph breaks as needed.

When finished, save as Process Essay Draft 1.

Homework help needed 250 words minimum each part

Part 1

Imagine that your city is planning to build a waste recycling plant in your neighborhood. What are the ethical and practical considerations for making this decision? How would your concern for the environment affect your view on this action? Would you oppose this action? Why or why not?

Part 2

Should consumers boycott products that are derived from tropical deforestation? What can consumers in America do about the problem of tropical deforestation around the world?

Art Appreciation Unit 4

Briefly describe the characteristics of Neoclassicism.

How does Élisabeth Vigée-Lebrun represent eighteenth-century portraiture?

How does Watteau’s painting Pilgrimage to Cythera exemplify a fête galante?

What is “Grand manner Portraiture”?

What Neoclassical elements did Thomas Jefferson infuse into his buildings, such as Monticello and The Rotunda?

Evaluate the influence the discovery and excavation of Pompeii and Herculaneum had on late 18th century and early 19th century Europe. How did these sites re-shape the visual arts? Use examples to support your essay.

Contrast the work of Vigée-Lebrun and Kaufmann. How does each artist reflect their environment and how do they each define their work? Use examples to support your essay.
