Purpose of Assignment

This assignment provides students with practice in understanding when or why to use Descriptive and Inferential Statistics learned during the past five weeks of QNT/275. Students will learn to implement these statistical measures for better business decision-making.

Prepare an 11- to 15-slide Microsoft^® PowerPoint^® presentation for the senior management team based on the business problem or opportunity you described in Weeks 2-4.

Include on the slides what you would want the audience to see (include appropriate visual aids/layout) and include in the speaker’s notes section what you would say as you present each slide. If any source material is quoted or paraphrased in the presentation, use APA citations and references.

Draw on material you developed in the Week’s 2, 3 and 4 assignments.

Include the following in your presentation:

• Introduction slide
• Agenda slide
• Describe the organization, with a brief description
• Explain the business problem or opportunity
• Describe the hypothesis
• Analyze why the business problem is important
• Identify what variable would be best to measure for this problem and explain why
• Identify statistical methods used to analyze data
• Apply data analysis techniques to this problem (tell which techniques should be used: descriptive statistics, inferential stats, probability) and explain why
• Apply a possible solution to the problem/opportunity, with rationale
• Evaluate how data could be used to measure the implementation of such a solution
• Conclusion
• Reference slide (if any source material is quoted or paraphrased throughout the presentation)

1. A major earthquake hit a large metropolitan area with over 5 million citizens. In addition to the local residents affected, an international sports event with thousands of participants and family members along with a global summit were severely affected by the earthquake. Multiple infrastructure elements collapsed (residences, buildings, bridges, etc). There are a large number of casualties. You are tasked to develop a tool to identify the victims.

Social class is a status hierarchy categorized by esteem or prestige acquired from economic success and accumulation of wealth. The four common social classes are upper, middle, working, and lower class. Consider the effects of social class, family structure, cultural background, group identification, and other social factors on your consumer behavior.

Document your demographic and psychographic profile. Use the Zip Code Finder to explore how your profile matches up with your social class. Click on the Zip Code Finder, and enter your zip code. Examine the population segments, and analyze your fit. Name the segment that fits your profile and social class. Note that there are 3 categories on the left-hand side, and you can browse through all 3 in trying to find the most appropriate profile.

Write a document of 500–600 words detailing your demographic and psychographic profile and your social class. Click here to see an example profile.

• Give your profile a name. This can be either one that you make up or one of the descriptor ideas from the site.
• Add a conclusion that explains why your profile is important to marketing professionals, brands, and companies.
