The cosmological function of myth serves as a type of early science, explaining natural phenomena. One such myth is that of the global flood; it has been in existence for millennia and exists in every culture. People long believed that a global flood was a reality and used science to prove it. Creation myths have an intersection with science as well, but modern theories on the creation of the world and universe are still debated and contested. In a journal entry, reflect on the following:

  • What do you think about the theories of the flood? Is one theory more plausible than another? Could there be more than one explanation?
  • Does the theme that you chose for your final project have theories based in science to explain it? – My theme is the trickster of mythology and whether they are good or evil. I do not believe that science can explain this unless it is looked at from a psychology standpoint.
