Advanced-Research-D1-Discussion-Topic-Research-a-Theory

Using phrenology, astrology, graphology, palmistry, numerology, ESP, or another pseudoscience (check with the instructor if unsure about whether something would fit into this discussion) as an example, describe how scientific explanations are superior to both “common sense” and “belief-based” explanations. How do the methods of authority and the rational method connect to this discussion?

Discussion Topic: Research a Theory

It is here that you will begin the collaborative process of discussing your research ideas and finding a question that you wish to develop into a research proposal. Using the Library or another course, you should find a theory or problem in psychology that you would like to investigate. You should describe the problem or theory and what it is about the topic that makes you want to investigate or understand it more thoroughly. Be detailed and clear in the primary post and, when responding to peers’ posts, it is important to be supportive and substantive: suggest potential avenues of research, discuss methods that seem appropriate, or note potential problems or ethical issues that may arise.

Weber-Halevy

Max Weber is not the only scholar to contend that religion can exert an important influence on the process of social change. Elie Halévy (1870–1937), a Frenchman and noted historian who wrote at about the same time as Weber, was primarily interested in the stability of English society during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Halévy thesis suggests that Methodism, under the influence of John Wesley (1703–1791) and his followers, provided a kind of “escape valve” for the discontented English working class. This religious faith became a mechanism for dissent, an outlet for opposition to everything from labor practices to the monarchy itself. Yet this opposition was basically peaceful and was oriented to social reform rather than revolutionary change. From a Marxist point of view, Methodists were not part of the ruling bourgeoisie, yet they served the interests of the wealthy and powerful. For Halévy, the rise of Methodism explains why England, of all the nations of Europe, was most free from political disorders and revolutions during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Halévy’s thesis has been criticized; in fact, many of the objections are similar to those raised in response to Weber’s monumental work. Some critics have argued that Halévy exaggerates the influence of Methodism and fails to explain the lack of revolt in England before this religion arose. Nonetheless, Halévy’s work, like Weber’s, contains important insights regarding the relationship between religious beliefs and the process of social change. See Elie Halévy. A History of the English People in the Nineteenth Century. Translated by E. I. Watkins and D. A. Barker. London: Ernest Benn; Halévy, 1924, rev. 1960; The Birth of Methodism in England. Translated by B. Senimel. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1971; Michael Hill. A Sociology of Religion. New York: Basic Books, 1973, pp. 183–203.

Discuss Weber’s and Halevy’s ideas regarding the effect of Methodism on the English people using 200 words and respond to two other students’ posts using 100 words each.

It is understood that your “piece” submitted for this assignment is just one component in the greater comprehensive plan for these stores. If information you need to complete your “piece” was not provided in the above scenario, you may make reasonable assumptions and proceed with your work based on those assumptions. It is expected that you will incorporate these assumptions in your work so that I may understand certain aspects of your “piece”.

The paper is due at the end of week 8. In your response to the discussion board “Research Paper Topic”, post the intended the subject you wish to research and why it is of special interest to you. I will approve, comment, or disapprove. Please wait for approval before you begin your research.
This must be completed by the end of Week 2.

Support your opinion on/of this topic by demonstrating examples of that influence. Your opinion does not determine your grade. Your grade is determined by how well you support your argument utilizing the materials discussed in this course and research and reference material you locate. Imagine-you-are-a-manager-at-a-major-bottling-company

DUE TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 5 2017

Imagine you are a manager at a major bottling company. Customers have begun to complain that the bottles of the brand of soda produced in your company contain less than the advertised sixteen (16) ounces of product. Your boss wants to solve the problem at hand and has asked you to investigate. You have your employees pull thirty (30) bottles off the line at random from all the shifts at the bottling plant. You ask your employees to measure the amount of soda there is in each bottle. Note: Use the data set provided by your instructor to complete this assignment.

Write a two to three (2-3) page report in which you:

  1. Calculate the mean, median, and standard deviation for ounces in the bottles.
  2. Construct a 95% Confidence Interval for the ounces in the bottles.
  3. Conduct a hypothesis test to verify if the claim that a bottle contains less than sixteen (16) ounces is supported. Clearly state the logic of your test, the calculations, and the conclusion of your test.
  4. Provide the following discussion based on the conclusion of your test:

a. If you conclude that there are less than sixteen (16) ounces in a bottle of soda, speculate on three (3) possible causes. Next, suggest the strategies to avoid the deficit in the future.

Or

b. If you conclude that the claim of less soda per bottle is not supported or justified, provide a detailed explanation to your boss about the situation. Include your speculation on the reason(s) behind the claim, and recommend one (1) strategy geared toward mitigating this issue in the future.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides. No citations and references are required, but if you use them, they must follow APA format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

I’VE ALREADY COMPLETED STEP ONE PLEASE SEE THE ANSWERS BELOW ALONG WITH AN ATTACHED TEMPLATE ON HOW THE PAPER SHOULD LOOK AND THE DATA FOR THE 30 RANDOM BOTTLES SELECTED.

The mean is 15.81

The median is 15.94

The standard deviation is 0.67

Lawson-s-Learning-Cycles-in-Mathematics-math-homework-help

Here are the instructions from the professor:

For this assignment, you will review the three types of Learning Cycles described by Lawson (descriptive, empirical-inductive, hypothetical-deductive), then outline the Learning Cycles of each type in your subject. The essential difference among the three types is the “degree to which students either gather data in a purely descriptive fashion… or initially set out to test hypotheses in a controlled fashion” (Lawson, 1986). You will select topics that correlate to the goals of each type, and describe how each “fits” Lawson’s model.

I am attaching the assignment. It needs to be typed within the same document.
