Week 1- Human Resourse- Timothy Bacon

THIS IS ONLY AN INTERPRETATION, FIVE SENTENCES AND A QUESTION IS ALL I NEED. TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS, HAVE REFERENCES! ASK PROBING QUESTIONS AND MAKE STATEMENTS BASED OFF WHAT THEY WROTE

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas is staff with around
50 people. It is made up of Deputies, Records Clerks, Corrections
Officers, and Administration. The Administration of this organization
are responsible for the Human Resources of the Sheriff’s Office. The
Sheriff, Under Sheriff, and their Executive Assistant handle all Human
Resource issues that arise within the Office. The issues can range from
the hiring and firing of employees, insurance enrollment, insuring the
employees are paid, and their issues as they arise. The Jefferson
County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the safety of around 1900
citizens, and is located between three major cities. The cities are
Topeka (state capital), Lawrence, and Kansas City. The Sheriffs’ Office
normally handles around 6000 calls for service a year.

Within the Sheriff’s Office there has been some ups and down when it
comes to human resources. Due to low morale at the Sheriff’s Office
there has been a lot of Deputies and Corrections Office that have left
the Office in the past year. This means they Human Resources team has
had to recruit, and hire more officers. While attempting to address the
low morale at the Office. Jefferson County has also changed its time
clock/ payroll management software in the past year. With this new
technology, there is less work on the administration.

The Sheriff’s Office is also faced with different challenges like
addressed by Pynes in this week’s reading. The Office has a large number
of older employees that are extremely close to retirement, and is
feeling the impact of the next generation of officers. It is becoming
hard to find motivative and qualified candidates to feel open positions.
Much like what was discussed this week’s readings with the differences
between the baby boomers, generation x, and millennials (Pynes, 2013).

Case-Study-Police-and-the-Law

In order to prepare for this case study, you will need to review Chapter 13, “Police and the Law,” in your textbook. In your case study, you will address the following:  Analyze and explain the use of the exclusionary rule by the Supreme Court of the United States.  Define how the exclusionary rule has affected the use of evidence acquired from police search and seizure cases.  Compare and contrast each of the following cases and the effects that the ruling decision by the Supreme Court has had on evidence obtained from police search and seizure.  What constitutes a reasonable search (include information regarding the ways that the police can use probable cause and execute a search warrant)?  How is search and seizure governed by the Fourth Amendment?  How do you feel that the police could have completed their searches in these cases more efficiently? Base your case study on the following three cases:  Weeks v. United States (1914)—Exclusionary rule applied to federal law enforcement agencies  Rochin v. California (1952)—Exclusionary rule applied to all cases involving extreme police misconduct  Mapp v. Ohio (1961)—Exclusionary rule applied to all law enforcement agencies (local, state, and federal) The completed assignment must be a minimum of five pages in length, not including the title page and references pages. You must include at least two references, one of which may be your textbook. The entire case study assignment must be written following APA style guidelines. Therefore, the APA rules for formatting, quoting, paraphrasing, citing, and listing of sources are to be followed. Information about accessing the Grading Rubric for this assignment is provided below

Congressional rules and procedures, political science assignment help

Attached is an example of citation style and one of the sources wil attached short chapters from the books, no other sources allowed assignment is ( min 8 pages max 12 pages)

Students will answer all four of the following essays. This is an “open book” test and, in fact, references should be made to your course readings. (And remember: no sources outside of our course materials and absolutely no consultation or collaboration with anyone on your answers.) Essays should be well-written and free of typos and compositional errors. Students should show sophistication in their understanding and thoughtfulness in their answers. Students should expect to write about 2-3 typed (double-spaced) pages PER essay (so 8-12 pages total).

1. The House and Senate have similar, and yet different, rules for debating, amending, and passing legislation. Chapter 8 in Congress and Its Members explains the processes of both the House and the Senate (and chapters 20 and 21 in the Reader give examples of rules for each institution). Discuss each chamber’s process separately, highlighting at least five key rules in each case. (Do NOT, though, spend a lot of time discussing filibuster, as you will be addressing that subject in Question 2.) Which rules are most critical in each chamber? How do the rules allow each institution to fulfill its constitutional obligations?

2. Two articles on Blackboard (under “Readings”) address the filibuster from differing perspectives. (You may want to lean somewhat on chapter 8 Congress and Its Members for some parts of the question too.) First, explain the history of the filibuster—its beginnings and its development over time. Next, explain its current status: how is it most likely to be employed today? Third, what are the key arguments against the filibuster and what are those for it? (For this part of the question, consult the articles under “Readings.”) Finally, what is your own view of the filibuster? Should it be retained or reformed, and why?

3. Presidents can influence domestic policy in a number of different ways. In chapter 10 in Congress and Its Members (as well as chapters 28-30 in the Reader), a president’s veto options are discussed. Explain the veto (or “negative”) power. What is it, how has it has changed over time, and how do presidents employ the power today? Be sure to distinguish between a “regular” and “pocket” veto. How does the veto relate to the “signing statement”? (Remember, this is somewhat complicated; make sure to be subtle in your answer.) Why might a signing statement be employed instead of a veto? Finally, do you think presidents should use the veto more or less today? Why?

4. In chapter 15 in Congress and Its Members (especially 462-470) as well as the two articles on Blackboard (under “Readings”), the war making roles of Congress and the president are addressed. Explain the early history of the war power and who the Founders expected to have a larger role in the process. Also, how have the roles of Congress and the president evolved, especially since the early 20th century? Focusing on recent events, what light does the Iraq War—especially the lead up to the war—shed on the issue of the modern use of the war power? Who holds the balance of power and who should hold the balance? Explain.

Discussing-your-view-of-the-Supreme-Court-decision-of-same-sex-marriage-

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled by a 5 to 4 vote that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage. Write a short essay (no less than three pages) discussing your view of the Supreme Court decision. Use the readings for this week to help give your essay depth. Feel free to agree or disagree with the various thinkers included in the readings and videoclips.

  • Is this decision the last we have seen of the marriage equality debate? Why or why not?
  • What changed in the last few years within our society to make this decision possible?
  • When we look back at this period in our history what will we think of this as a historic moment?
  • Feel free to take a glance at the full decision: http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/14pdf/14-556_…

rewrite my original post using teacher’s corrections with complete sentences

My original post:

Wow! This documentary was defiantly an eye opener for me and hopefully others. The challenges that the individual with the mental health issue are tough. I could only imagine have a sense of confusion of not being in control of who they truly are. The families and the sadness that was seen in each of those parent’s faces was heartbreaking to watch.

The access to mental care for their loved one was a joke. They had to overcome so many obstacles and barriers just so that they child can be safe and kept in a safe environment. The position that they are placed in is a hard one and having to fight for a child whether that child is grown or not, in order to get that help that is much needed is worth it. More beds should be available and more people should be available to stand up and fight against injustice and the for the right of treatment for mental illness.

Teacher’s response to my original post:

Wow! (While I agree with you that this documentary is worthy of a “wow” effect, it is not appropriate for academic writing. I do love your enthusiasm, and I do not want to diminish this wonderful quality in you. In future, strive to write academically, while still asserting your strength of feelings and thoughts regarding a matter.) This documentary was defiantly (the word “defiantly” means to defy or to stand up strongly against something; you meant to use the word “definitely”; take care to use the correct word choice) an eye opener for me and hopefully others. The challenges that the individual with the mental health issue are tough. (This is not a good sentence. I could only imagine have a sense of confusion of not being in control of who they truly are. (This is another poorly written sentence.) The families and the sadness that was seen in each of those parent’s faces was heartbreaking to watch. (This is another poorly written sentence. One more note: The large font for this first part of your FORUM response is odd. I am not sure what happened here, but the trouble seemed to have been corrected in the last portion of your response, as follows. Please use the correct sized font in future assignments.) The access to mental care for their loved one was a joke. (Find another way to describe this assertion that is academically sound; one may informally say that something was a “joke” in everyday speech, but it is not appropriate for formal academic writing). (Each of these sentences need significant reworking)

Italy.. Discussion Questions

250 word minimum per question.

Catholic Italy

* Overall, do you find that the Vatican as an institution has helped or hindered Italy?

* Choose a religious festival celebrated somewhere in Italy and present it to the class. Does it reflect regionalism? OR Choose an Italian saint and present it to the class. Include a small picture. In what way can the reliance on saints be interpreted as a typically Italian attitude?

Dante’s Inferno

* Let’s create an overview of Dante’s Inferno. Mention one significant aspect of the structure of the Divine Comedy or the Inferno.

* Choose a punishment and briefly explain how it exemplifies the law of contrapasso. Include a relevant quote from Dante’s work and a link to a picture.

* How does the Inferno relate to the importance of spectacle? How does it relate to Catholicism?

The Italian Renaissance

* Look through the collection of artworks and select one of the paintings. Explain how the work moves towards, perfectly represents, or begins to move away from Renaissance aesthetics. Pay particular attention to realism vs. idealism, the reproduction of “human” space, and the use of mythology. You may choose a painting not included in the collection if you find it is particularly representative. The Website: Overview of Italian Painters from 1200 to 1850 is a great resource for finding other Italian Renaissance artists.

Relation to Renaissance

“Moving towards the Renassaince”

Brief description

Saint Andrew, characterized by the cross and a book, is represented in profile.

Significance

Certain medieval characteristics are still evident, for example the gold background and the subject matter.

However, Saint Andrew’s body seems to jut out from the background: he is tangible as opposed to a flat figure. His green cloak creates mass, making him look chunky. His somewhat droopy eyes also make him more of a human than saintly figure.

The cross is particularly symbolic of the shift to the Renaissance. This classic Christian symbol is shown here in perspective – it is no longer simply a symbol but an actual object in (human) space.

* In Renaissance paintings, beauty represents philosophical principles. Do you think beauty can be more than just appearance? How would you relate this to Italian identity?

Making the Italians

* What are you most proud of when it comes to your country? How does this compare to Italy?

* What is the difference between a nation and a government? How is Italy peculiar from this point of view?

* Garibaldi and Cavour – Who is better suited to become a national hero? Explain. Why do you think Italians don’t really have political heroes? How does this attitude compare to the American notion of the Founding Fathers?

Criminal Organizations

* Some sociologists have claimed that Italians are actually subconsciously proud of the Mafia – to a degree at least. How would you explain this stance? How do you think the Italian government should tackle such a problematic attitude?

* Summarize Pasquale’s feelings toward “the System” at the end of the chapter “Angelina Jolie.” What has the Camorra made possible? What has the Camorra taken away?
