Implementing a Global Business Technology Plan

You are a management consultant who has been commissioned by an
organization to produce a report on the conditions necessary to
successfully implement a global business strategy plan. The
organization has recently identified extensive changes in technology
and business dynamics in the markets it serves (you select a country
for your scenario), and the organization’s plan is to enter a “new”
country (you must select a country different from the one in which you
reside).

The senior management team wants you to assess its current strategy
and to produce a realistic strategy and development plan for entering
the new market.

The strategy will be based on your review of the organization’s
industry, product, or service, and it must be supported by your
findings from research of relevant theories and models.

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be 6-8 pages in length, which does not include
the title page or required reference page, which are never a part
    of the content minimum requirements.
  • Use Saudi Electronic University academic writing standards and APA style guidelines.
  • Support your submission with course material concepts, principles, and theories from the textbook and at least two scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles unless the assignment calls for more.

Module 2 Discussion SWOT

In
Module 2, we focus on SWOT. In order to complete a SWOT, we are required to
identify and analyze the key opportunities and threats in the external
environment. Then, we need to identify and analyze the company’s key strengths
and weaknesses (internal analysis).

Question 1, you are asked to address the following:

a) Evaluate the operating industry of General Mills using a minimum of two forces included within Porter’s Five Forces model.

b) Using PEST, assess General Mills’ remote environment using a minimum of two PEST forces.

c) Conclude your assessment about the overall environment. Is it more or less favorable for General Mills? Give your ranking from 1-10 (in which 1 = vast gloom and doom for this company; 10 = huge bonus this year!). Where do you think General Mills fits on this 1-10 scale?

Due Week 8 and worth 200 points

This “Assignment 2” writing assignment is a comparative essay focused on topics encountered in our HUM 111 class. The project will be based on research but will reflect your views and interpretation of the topic. This project is designed to help you stretch your mind and your abilities as an organized, innovative, and critical thinker. If approached properly, it should also be fun!

Choose one (1) of the topics from the list of topic choices below. Read the topic carefully. Write a three to four (3-4) page paper (750-1,000 words) that follows instructions and covers each part of the topic. (The title page and References list do not get included in this word count).

Note: Your instructor may require you to submit your topic choice for approval before the end of Week 5.

For the topic you choose:

  1. Establish a clear thesis about your topic as part of the introductory paragraph (often the thesis is the last thing one determines after doing the basic research and outline; however it will be placed in the first paragraph of your paper).
  2. This is a comparative essay. Comparison approached properly will require some critical thinking on your part. Use a point-by-point approach for the essay. That means, if comparing subject A with subject B, don’t do the first half of the essay on subject A and then the second half on subject B–that will seem like two (2) separate essays and comparisons will tend to get lost. Instead, you should be mentioning both subjects in most of your paragraphs as you compare them throughout the essay. Comparisons will identify similarities as well as contrasts.
  3. Do not try to do everything on your two (2) subjects. You should end up narrowing your focus to a few insights and issues about the subjects being compared. And, from those fairly specific points of comparison, you will develop a thesis and glean some lessons.
  4. Follow closely the instructions below for your specific topic.
  5. Include a concluding paragraph at the end. This paragraph will, in some way, refer back to the thesis established in your first paragraph, since now you have demonstrated and supported it. It may be here that you also include your observations relating your study to the modern workplace or society (see your topic). Try to finish with flair!
  6. Use at least three (3) good quality academic sources, with one (1) source being the class text. Note: Wikipedia and other similar Websites do not qualify as academic resources. You are highly encouraged to use the Resource Center tab at the top of your Blackboard page.

Topic ChoicesChoose just one (1) of the topics below:

  • Qualities of the Hero: Comparing Gilgamesh and Odysseus. Write an essay comparing these two (2) heroic figures from ancient epics of different cultures, especially focusing your analysis on the sources about their encounters with monsters: Gilgamesh encounters the monster guarding the forest, Humbaba, in Tablets 3-5 of the Epic of Gilgamesh (see http://www.ancienttexts.org/library/mesopotamian/g…; scroll down to the Tablet links; think of “Tablet” numbers like chapter numbers).” Odysseus encounters Polyphemus the Cyclops in Book 9 of The Odyssey (see http://www.theoi.com/Text/HomerOdyssey9.html; from line 105 to the end). Your paper should:

a) Compare Gilgamesh and Odysseus as to their heroic qualities, noting similarities and differences, using specific examples from the epics.

b) Summarize what this indicates about differences between ancient Mesopotamian and Greek cultures in their ideals and expectations.

c) From this comparison, suggest ways that current cultural ideals and expectations shape modern notions about role models and heroes.

  • Confucius and Aristotle on Virtue. Write an essay comparing these two (2) ancient thinkers on the concept of virtue or good ethical character and conduct. Stay focused on the issue; keep any biographical or other information short or limited. As much as possible, analyze their writings (in translation, of course), using Confucius’ Analects (at http://classics.mit.edu/Confucius/analects.html ) and Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics (at http://classics.mit.edu/Aristotle/nicomachaen.html ). Your paper should:

a) Compare the teachings of Confucius and Aristotle on what constitutes virtue or good ethical character and conduct, noting similarities and differences in specific ideas or emphasis.

b) Consider what your findings suggest about differences between ancient Chinese and ancient Greek culture.

c) From this comparison, suggest ideas of virtue that can apply to ethics in a modern setting, such as a diverse workplace.

  • Comparing Sculptures of Ancient India and Greece. Write an essay comparing the way gods and humans were depicted in sculpture in ancient India and Greece, and identify the cultural values and ideals that these art works reflect in each case. Your paper should:

a) Using specific examples, compare the way gods and people were depicted in the sculptures of ancient India and Greece, noting similarities and differences.

b) Identify the cultural values and ideals that these art works reflect for each society.

c) From this comparison, suggest a modern situation of artistic expression and the ways it reflects or counters prevailing cultural values.

  • Comparing Ancient Skeptics. Write an essay comparing Lucretius and Wang Chong (=Wang Ch’ung), skeptical philosophers of ancient Rome and China. They were skeptical about popular religious and spiritual beliefs and widely-held superstitions. Lucretius was an Epicurean philosopher of Roman culture (Chapter 6). Wang Ch’ung was a thinker in ancient Chinese culture (Chapter 7). Focus your comparison on their writings as found at http://www.humanistictexts.org/lucretius.htm and http://www.humanistictexts.org/wangchung.htm#On Not Flying to Heaven. Your paper should:

a) Using examples from their writings, compare these two (2) thinkers on their views about specific subjects and on their approach in explaining and expressing their skepticism.

b) From this comparison, identify popular beliefs in each culture that seem similar and those that seem different.

c) From this comparison, suggest any modern situation in which materialist skeptics confront spiritual and religious beliefs, and comment on the considerations of free expression and cultural respect.

  • Comparing Ancient Male Rulers. Take any two (2) of these rulers and write an essay comparing them: Ramses II, Shihuangdi, Constantine, Ashoka, Pericles, or Charlemagne. Select rulers from different cultures. You may also propose (for approval or not) a ruler not listed. Avoid lengthy quoting or lengthy close paraphrasing from biographical sources. Make it YOUR comparative analysis. Your paper should:

a) Compare the two (2) rulers in terms of their situation and methods of rule and their apparent ideals and practices, noting similarities and differences. Use specific examples.

b) Consider what your study suggests about the cultures over which they ruled, identifying any similarities and differences between the cultures.

c) From this comparison, suggest lessons about different types of effective leadership in the world of modern business and / or modern politics.

  • Comparing Ancient Female Rulers. Compare the Tang Empress Wu Zetian (also known as Empress Wu or as Wu Zhao; ruled China around 690-705 AD) with either the Pharaoh Cleopatra (ruled Egypt around 51-31 BC) or the Pharaoh Hatshepsut (ruled Egypt around 1478-1458 BC). You may also propose (for approval or not) a female ruler not listed. Avoid lengthy quoting or lengthy close paraphrasing from biographical sources. Make it YOUR comparative analysis. Your paper should:

a) Compare the two (2) rulers in terms of their situation and ascent to power, their methods of rule, and their achievements and resourcefulness, noting similarities and differences. Use specific examples.

b) Consider what your study suggests about the cultures over which they ruled, identifying any similarities and differences between the cultures.

c) From this comparison, suggest lessons about different types of effective leadership by a female in the world of modern business and / or modern politics.

  • Other topic choice using a comparative approach (proposed by student or instructor) and approved by the professor and supported by the grading rubric.

The Project Paper will be graded on:

  1. The level to which the instructions were followed for the paper generally and for the specific topic.
  2. The establishment of a clear thesis about your topic.
  3. The adequacy and relevance of information, examples, and details which support the general thesis.
  4. Covering each part of the topic as instructed, including the comparisons, the consideration of ancient cultural differences, and the reflection on lessons for modern society or the modern workplace.
  5. The quality of your research and your persuasiveness using critical reasoning.
  6. The use and acknowledgement of a minimum of three (3) required references (the class textbook plus at least two (2) other quality academic sources) documented using the APA style –including both the use of a proper References list and the use of proper in-text citations.
  7. Adherence to standard rules of grammar, punctuation, paragraphing, and mechanics, and general clarity of presentation.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides. Both in-text citations and a References list are required. Citations and references must follow APA style format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions specific to the selected topic. (Note: Students can find APA style materials located in the course shell for guidance).
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length. For our purposes, you may omit any abstract page.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Explain how key social, cultural, and artistic contributions contribute to historical changes.
  • Explain the importance of situating a society’s cultural and artistic expressions within a historical context.

  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in the study of world cultures.
  • Write clearly and concisely about world cultures using proper writing mechanics.

Conflict Management Report

Conflict Management Report

The workplace can be an especially stressful environment. Personal conflicts between coworkers, fear of layoffs, and heavy workloads can be causes of negative stress. This stress can be carried to our homes and after-work activities, impacting personal health. Allowing these stressors to build and intensify will only further impair the work environment. For this assignment, you are required to review a scenario regarding a woman (Kate) who has experienced negative stress stemming from her work environment. Then, you will compare your own conflict management skills and experiences against Kate’s experiences. Follow the directions below to write an 8–10-page report on conflict management.

Review the following scenario:

Kate has been employed by a well-known manufacturing company for 12 years. She is the only female on her line and the fastest worker. She has been promoted several times through mergers and acquisitions, but has always been looked over for a senior management position. Kate believes she is qualified for advancement but thinks her manager has a problem with her personally. To top it off, Kate did not receive a semiannual or annual review, which would have resulted in a raise. Her coworkers (all males) have urged her to go to management and report what she believes to be discriminatory behavior from her immediate manager.

Now, complete the following tasks:

  1. Discuss a situation you have been in where you felt you were passed over for a promotion, made to feel indifferent, or were discriminated against. Compare and contrast your story with Kate’s.
  2. Compare the possible ethical breaches of Kate’s manager against your own manager’s behavior. Utilize scholarly research on leadership theory as justification.
  3. Compare the possible legal breaches of Kate’s manager against your own manager’s behavior. Utilize scholarly research on leadership theory as justification.
  4. Recommend an approach Kate could have used to manage the negative risk both personally and professionally.
  5. Evaluate the advice Kate received from her coworkers.
  6. Referring to the conflict resolution strategies taught in this course, determine which one is best suited to resolve Kate’s conflict. Justify your position.
  7. In the chart below, evaluate your conflict resolution skills from the past five years. Rate yourself on a scale from 1–5, where 1 represents low performing and 5 represents high performing.

Conflict Resolution Approach

Rate Yourself (1–5)

  • Preventing the conflict
  • Suppressing the conflict
  • Avoiding the conflict
  • Using false emotions for distracting the conflict
  • Eliminating the conflict
  • Accepting the conflict
  • Recognizing the value of the conflict
  • Encouraging interpersonal criticism
  • Managing the conflict

Select one conflict resolution approach in which you ranked the lowest and develop an individual improvement plan for that approach.Explain how the mediation process could strengthen your conflict resolution and management skills.Discuss how the arbitration process could strengthen your conflict resolution and management skills.Implement some portion of your plan. Provide a detailed summary of the changes that occurred in your development as it relates to your ability to handle conflict.

Write an 8–10-page report in Word format. Utilize at least four scholarly sources (in addition to your textbook) to complete your research, referencing them within the text and at the end in a reference list. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A2.doc.

Make sure you write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship through accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Developmental observation

due dates: Before midnight (11:59) primary 7/15/2017, final 7/29/2017 Description of Assignments
A four page paper in a case study format, this observation has a central function of evaluating the thesis, premises, or main points of a journal article focusing a discrete developmental era which you select using the college’s library database vis-a-vis an actual in vivo observation of asubject you select and recruit. The paper is evaluated based on coherence, critical thinking, clarity of the prescribed sections and finish in termsof writing and citations.

Instructions for Developmental Observations
Overview
This is a 4 page (225-250 word each page, 10 or 12 font) assignment. It is a technical writing assignment similar to a caseworker presentation in social work, nursing or education. Each part (page) of the assignment has a particular function in the overall paper.
Start by reading all the samples and investigation of the articles in the “links” page of instructions. You may use one of these articles, but anappropriate article you find yourself will be worth a few points on your grade. Then pick a subject available to you
The writing should have an objective tone. Avoid personalizing by minimizing “I think” “In my opinion” or other first person pronouns. Refer “thesubject” not “my subject.” Don’t predict, analyze or editorialize. Don’t characterize the individual by abstractions like socioeconomic class. Don’tsay “she’s a stereotypical grandmother” or he is a “nice man. Describe the subject and events in phenomenological detail- what you see asbehaviors. Quote the subject to express personality or style elements.
Theme
Pick a theme based on normal psychological development. Motor skills, verbal, social, emotional or whatever sphere, as long as the emphasisis on normal development. The purpose of the course is to understand and recognize patterns of NORMAL development. Do not pick achronically mentally ill, or any subject that evidences significant pathology or a very unusual situation of disability.
Readings
Get an online library card from the NECC library using the link on the homepage. You may use the readings provided in links for DevelopmentalObservations. They are intended to convey a standard. It is somewhat preferred that you find your own reading. You MUST find your readingusing EBSCO Host or any other search engine provided on the library search. Get the article cleared with me if you have any questions, beforeundertaking the project. Use a single source article.
The quality of the chosen source is considered in evaluating your paper. It should be from a reputable academic journal. You need to summarizethe finding in the reading as it relates to your observation. One sentence at the end of your one page summary of the reading should state thefinding which is being evaluated by your observation.
The studies I am offering may be used as bases for your paper, but are essentially models of appropriate type studies. You are ultimatelyresponsible to search and locate a study and a subject that is appropriate for your purposes. If it is not one of the studies provided, you shouldcopy it and send it along with your paper- or clearly reference it if it is available in out library’s data bases.
Subjects
The papers are based on subjects from age frames covered by the course. An age frame might be “,” “ middle age,” a young adult from say 20- 35, middle aged 35- 55, older 55-70 or very old, over 70 let’s say. Don’t use an immediate relative or a best friend to maintain objectivity. If youdo use someone close don’t let me or the reader know. Each of your papers should cover a different and distinct age frame.
Getting started.
The best approach to the assignment is to search for a study or article that seems to apply to a potential subject in your pool of availablechoices. If your friend, neighbor or co-worker has a parent or friend who seems to fit the category of a reading you’re interested in- that might be a good place to start. Do not use your own immediate relatives- objectivity becomes impossible. Often when you review articles a subject willcome to mind.

Format start with a heading at left with your name course assignment and version, then date
a. Page one is a psychosocial profile describing physical, environmental, parental, family variables. Start with age, stature, physicalappearance. Then talk about spouse family. Then educational background and work. Then home and neighborhood. Then talk about lifestyle:hobbies activities, memberships, politics and church affiliation. Be succinct.
b. SUMMARY OF THE READING. You must use a NECC college library data base TO LOCATE AN APPROPRIATE HIGH QUALITY JOURNAL ARTICLE. Page two summarizes theme of the reading, describes method and subjects used in study. Start with the title and authors. End with asentence or two foreshadowing what you will focus in the observation.
c&d. Page three ( summarize developmental observation or interviews. Location and circumstances, duration.Don’t use a Q&A format, but include key quotes that capture the essence of the meeting. Don’t give opinions herein. This section is forstudiously reporting events you observe as objectively as possible- “phenomenological observation.”. Avoid opinions or editorializing- just thefacts. Write in full sentences- don’t outline or list. Avoid charts and graphs as much as possible- or put them in addendum- not as part of thenarrative..
e. Assessment. Page four assesses the theme of the reading in light of the detailed behavioral observations made of the subject. The sole work of the assessment is the explicit comparison of the central assertions of the source article and the details of thephenomenological observation.

This is where writers MISTAKENLY inject inappropriate editorial remarks or grandiloquent conclusions. Please avoid that trap It is not importantthat your observations support the theme of the article- they may not. Probably the article is based on a sample selection of subjects. Yourobservation is a single subject that may evidence individual differences.
f. Citation: APA citation in full here, followed by a working url address. This is usually the persistent link located on the first page of EBSCOarticle. Don’t use the address that you find in the url box after a search. Then you’d need your library card. I want to be able to open the article athome.

Summary and checklist of paper requirements.
1- Paper must have 4 pages at 225-250 words per page in 10 to 12 font.
2- Paper must be written according to prescribed format. It should open with a statement about the age frame, key theme or point of article usedfor reference, and summary description of subject and how / where you located the subject. Each section should have a subheading (bold).
3- Paper must have a single subject – not twins, siblings, families etc. Subject should not be your parent, grand mom or immediate relative.
4- This is an exercise in technical writing. Everything has a place and the place is based on convention. This enables a reader to quickly locateinformation of particular interest. Paper has a formal writing style. Proper English usage in narrative style with paragraphing and referencing.Avoid editorializing (“I feel”, ‘I think”). No slang, listing, or other “creative” deviations from expository English constructions.
Good paragraphing is desirable. The means that paragraphs have a theme and hang together around a topic sentence. Many students don’tparagraph well.

Paper must completely ( author title date, location where published) reference the reading source at the end fully in APA form (see librarywebsite) Include URL website address where applicable. Include a copy of reading when web address is unavailable. Single or unaccredited webpages are not suitable sources. Journal articles located through the NECC library data bases (i.e. EBSCO etc) are required.

MALCOLM X

Writing a research paper about a story, novel, film or poem is much like writing about an issue. Essays must still take a position on an issue; however, the issue will be one raised by the text. As a result, research will include looking for books and articles about the literary text, the time period, and the specific issue addressed in your essay.

For example, the argument that Harriet Jacobs’ Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl redefines the existing ideals of womanhood in order to expose the hypocrisy of slavery and establish the humanity of slaves would look at the following types of sources:

  • Critical analyses of the novel
  • Essays explaining gender roles and the ideal of True Womanhood for the time
  • Historical sources about the institution of slavery and its impact

Research Essay

For your final essay you will write an argumentative research essay about a literary topic of your choice (and included in our class textbook). You may choose any aspect of the text that interests you as long as you can sustain an extended analysis. You may not write about a text you have already written about. The topics below are only suggestions.

Examples of Research Paper Topics:

  1. Consider the way Amiri Baraka’s Dutchman (film) defines Black manhood.
  2. Investigate the impact of Audre Lorde’s “Poetry is Not a Luxury” on contemporary writers, particularly her valuing of emotion as a source for social action.
  3. Consider the connections between current social movements/events and literature in two poems (for example, Patricia Smith’s “The Undertaker” and Gwendolyn Brooks’ “We Real Cool”). How do these poems make the relationship between art and social activism clear?
  4. Consider the role of Africa in African American Literature by examining one literary text or comparing two texts (i.e. Marcus Garvey, Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, Phillis Wheatley, etc.).
  5. Examine the role of education in social/racial advancement, as presented in W.E.B. Dubois’ “Wings of Atalanta” and/or Booker T. Washington’s “Atlanta Exposition Address.”
  6. Examine the tradition of the slave narrative by analyzing one or two texts, at least one from the contemporary period (neo-slave narratives). Why is that tradition still with us today? (examples: Johnson’s “The Education of Mingo,” Morrison’s “Beloved” (film is okay), Octavia Butler’s “Bloodchild,” etc.)

In evaluating your essays, I will be looking for the following: a clear thesis; a strong defense for that thesis grounded in textual evidence; an organizational structure that leads from one point coherently to the next; and a thorough analysis of evidence and examples.

All essays must be submitted by Monday, April 30th in LA 206 by 12noon.

I will not accept any late research essays. Arriving to my office at 12:15pm means the essay is late and will receive a zero.

Research Paper Guidelines:

  • Research essay should be 6-8 pages, typed and double-spaced.
  • All essays should include an additional works cited page documenting all outside sources. This should be in MLA format.
  • Essays should include a minimum of 5 secondary sources—books or articles/essays. All online sources must be retrieved through a library database. All sources must be peer-reviewed. The final works cited will include 6 sources: 1 primary text and 5 secondary sources.
