Purpose

Personality disorders are conditions that are extremely stigmatizing and complicated to diagnose, often requiring over 12 months to accurately diagnose. Treatment is limited, typically, to addressing symptoms related to the disorders, as our personalities are fixed and cannot really be changed via pharmacological or non-pharmacological interventions. Due to such limitations of treatment, accessing services, such as acute inpatient care, can be challenging. Obstacles presented by personality disorders tend to be typically relational (interpersonal and intrapersonal) and social.

Instructions

1. Create an initial post (150-200 word) that addresses the following question and integrates at least one relevant article:
   • “DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Theory) is the ‘gold standard” in terms of treatment for BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), focusing on core elements like emotional regulation, grounding, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT, however, is increasingly being used to treat individuals with various mental health conditions. What are two of these diagnoses and what are the expected treatment outcomes for each?”

During your field education experience, you will interact with multiple clients. As you interact with clients and review your process recordings, you might discover that one client stands out. This may be due to the services needed or a potential case history that interests you.

As a future social worker, preparing a case presentation allows you to present social work practice skills demonstrated in addressing client needs to your colleagues.

For this Assignment, you will submit a case presentation of a client you encountered during your field education experience. Review your field education experience notes and your previous process recordings.

The Assignment: (5–7 pages)

Create a Case Presentation that includes the following:

• An explanation of your agency and the services offered
• A description of your client to include demographics, presenting problem, goal, legal/ethical considerations, assessment, and proposed treatment/social services delivery plan and the inclusion of termination plans if applicable
• An explanation of whether interacting with your client demonstrated social work practice skills
• Identification of potential social work skills not demonstrated in your agency or field placement to include a proposed professional development plan
• An explanation of how preparing and engaging in a formal case presentation represents a component of professional social work

“I do,” she smiles. “We can determine the target WACC for Apix Printing Inc., given these assumptions,” she says as she hands you a piece of paper that says the following:

• Weights of 40% debt and 60% common equity (no preferred equity)
• A 35% tax rate
• Cost of debt is 8%
• Beta of the company is 1.5
• Risk-free rate is 2%
• Return on the market is 11%

“Great,” you say. “Thanks.”
“Be sure to indicate how these costs of capital might be used to determine the feasibility of the capital project,” Mary says. “I want your recommendation about which is more appropriate to apply to project evaluation, too. Let me know what you think.”
“One more thing,” she says as she stands up to signal the end of the meeting. “You did a good job with the explanations that you provided Luke the other day. Would you have time to define marginal cost of capital for me so I can include it in my discussions with investors? You seem to have a knack for making things accessible to nonfinancial folks.”
“No problem,” you say. “I’m glad my explanations are so useful!”
