6 Art History 11 Questions?

Chapter 11 Mind and Body

1.The Ideal Body What is an idealized body, or the “perfect” body? Look at the examples in the text: Torso from India, Yakshi from India , Polykleitos’ Doryphorus , Male Torso from Africa, the Hellenistic Laocoön , Medieval The Last Judgment , Michelangelo’s David , and Muybridge’s Handspring. What cultures are represented? What was important to each culture in representing the body? What is important to us today?

2.Self-Portrait For centuries, artists have drawn, painted, sculpted, and photographed their own likenesses, expressing their characteristics and interests. How is the digital age of myspace and facepage changing ideas of self-portraiture. Are they more “real” than artistic paintings? How do these websites build on the tradition of portraiture and self-portraiture and in what ways do they change the way we construct our individual and collective identities?

3.Staged Poses In Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Still #35, Sherman invented a scene in a black and white film. In the Untitled Film Still series, Sherman explores the idea of gender roles and female stereotypes by placing herself in the scene and dressing the part. Rembrandt also dressed himself occasionally in costumes, playing a more regal or religious role depending on the costumes he wore. In many ways, Sherman’s work speaks to the way we all dress up for our lives. What are some common items that identify a role we are playing or fulfilling?

4.East Meets West When the ports of Japan were opened in the mid to late 1800s, Japan influenced a new generation of painters in Europe, and European conventions influenced a new generation of Japanese artists. How is Shimomura Kanzan’s Study for the Portrait of Okakura Tenshin combining Western conventions of art with Japanese traditions? How is Vincent van Gogh’s Portrait of Dr. Gachet combining Japanese conventions of art with Western traditions?

5.Portraits and Photography Prior to the invention of photography, portrait painting was reserved for royalty, the wealthy, or important members of society because it was expensive and required a lot of time. Photography opened up the possibilities for the average person to capture their likeness in a portrait. Portraits both painted and photographed capture not only the likeness of the sitter, but may also reveal something of the sitter’s personality. Examine both the paintings and photographs from the chapter. What do these images say about each of the subjects? How did portraits change during the 20th century?

6.Portrait Story Choose one of the portraits from chapter 13. Write a story about your selected person. It could be from their point of view, or it could be a narrative written about them.

I attached some photo from the book for you if you need more info let me know please.

revise for outline

First, I submitted this outlined for this essay:

The Role of Non-verbal Communication in Effective Communication

I. Introduction

a.) Begin introduction with “the hook” , then describe effective communication and non-verbal

b.)Background for verbal communication, explain and discuss why is it important and may include quotes or supporting details from a reliable source.

c.)Thesis statement: The ability to use and understand non-verbal communication is essential to help individuals connect with others when trying to express feelings, handling difficult situations and creating relationships with other in diverse places.

Body Paragraphs:

a.)Topic Sentence 1: Nonverbal communication is an effective way in expressing or portraying feelings and emotions to others without being accompanied by words.

  • Discuss more about the different categories of nonverbal communication
  • Explain how non-verbal cues or types helps in expressing our feelings such as body language, facial expressions and gestures.
  • Includes examples and supporting details
  • End topic sentence 1 or paragraph with transitional sentence

b.)Topic Sentence 2: Non-verbal communications can offer meaning above and beyond spoken or verbal communication, and often speak louder than words; therefore, understanding of nonverbal communications can also be instrumental in handling difficult situations.

  • Explain and describe the appropriate use of nonverbal cues or signs (for instance, such as gestures and body language should matches your verbal message)
  • Discuss the role of “mirroring” one of powerful tools of nonverbal communication
  • Give examples or research support from reliable source(s)
  • End topic sentence 2 or paragraph with transitional sentence

c.)Topic sentence 3: Non-verbal communication is highly unique and different from person to person and especially from one culture to another. Thus, understanding the role of nonverbal communication can help us to better relate and create good relationships with other in diverse places.

  • Discuss and give example how diverse places or cultures differ in their nonverbal communication or expression of emotions.
  • Explain paralanguage and its role in nonverbal communication
  • Give supporting examples or evidence
  • End paragraph with transitional sentence

Conclusion:

Summary of your main point and reiterate thesis statement.

“So what”: The role of nonverbal communication is important in an effective communication for it relays the majority of our messages and helps us to express feelings and other essential information. Therefore, nonverbal communication is one of the powerful tools in communication and when used appropriately it can work to our advantage.

***BUT!! Here’s my feedback:

You are tackling a lot within this outline; your writing and research will go more smoothly if you can narrow what you really want to discuss. Remember the essay prompt is “What is effective communication”, so you’ll want to DEFINE that within the context of your topic, non verbal communication. If it helps, think of it as a “how to” guide for those who want to improve their communication nonverbally. In other words, you’ll want to eliminate quite a bit of what you currently have, and clarify the definition and “how to”.

and also, maybe thinking about pinpointing exact scenarios or people that nonverbal communication helps will get you a thesis that is pretty solid.

* Please help or suggest a better revised outline for this research plus I need help to write this! ( Might post another q&a) for entire essay. lol

Alliance Supermarket and Point-of-Sale (POS) Systems, business and finance homework help

Read the “Alliance Supermarket” case study in Chapter 10 of your text.

CASE STUDY:

Alliance Supermarkets has been using a point-of-sale (POS) system for some time to track its inventory. The system uses a laser scanner to read the universal product code (UPC) on each item at the checkout container. The UPC is a number that uniquely identifies the product on which it appears. Currently, Alliance is using the UPC information to update inventory records for each item. Although the system has greatly improved the company’s ability to replenish inventory promptly, the company still has some problems. For example, sudden changes in demand for a particular item can catch the company by surprise as it bases inventory replenishment on historical demand patterns. Further, demand patterns and preferences may vary from one store to another depending on the customers served by each, but the inventory system groups all demand information together and treats each store equally. Finally, the manufacturers that make the products stocked by Alliance Supermarkets are always pressuring Alliance to help them target appropriate customers for special promotions and sales.

The chief information officer (CIO) of Alliance realizes that much more could probably be done with the data collected from its POS system. For example, the company could analyze the relationship between each product’s sales and weather patterns. It is even possible to analyze an individual customer’s buying habits and identify instances when a customer may be persuaded to try a different brand of a certain product.

Suppose you have been asked to study this situation and suggest possible new and innovative uses for the information generated by the POS system. Ideally, these ideas should help Alliance better serve its customers by ensuring that adequate quantities of each item are available, that costs are kept low, and that customers are made aware of new products that may interest them.

  1. What information may help Alliance reduce costs while providing better service?
  2. If purchase information can be obtained on individual customers, what new approach could be used by Alliance?

Nursing Critical thinking discussion question (Case Scenario)

Use the following Case Scenario, Subjective Data, and Objective Data to answer the Critical Thinking Questions.

Case Scenario

Mrs. J. is a 63-year-old woman who has a history of hypertension, chronic heart failure, and sleep apnea. She has been smoking two packs of cigarettes a day for 40 years and has refused to quit. Three days ago, she had an onset of flu with fever, pharyngitis, and malaise. She has not taken her antihypertensive medications or her medications to control her heart failure for 4 days. Today, she has been admitted to the hospital ICU with acute decompensated heart failure.

Subjective Data

  1. Is very anxious and asks whether she is going to die.
  2. Denies pain but says she feels like she cannot get enough air.
  3. Says her heart feels like it is “running away.”
  4. Reports that she is so exhausted she cannot eat or drink by herself.

Objective Data

  1. Height 175 cm; Weight 95.5 kg
  2. Vital signs: T 37.6 C, HR 118 and irregular, RR 34, BP 90/58
  3. Cardiovascular: Distant S1, S2, S3 present; PMI at sixth ICS and faint; all peripheral pulses are 1+; bilateral jugular vein distention; initial cardiac monitoring indicates a ventricular rate of 132 and atrial fibrillation
  4. Respiratory: Pulmonary crackles; decreased breath sounds right lower lobe; coughing frothy blood-tinged sputum; SpO2 82%
  5. Gastrointestinal: BS present: hepatomegaly 4 cm below costal margin

Critical Thinking Questions

What nursing interventions are appropriate for Mrs. J. at the time of her admission? Drug therapy is started for Mrs. J. to control her symptoms. What is the rationale for the administration of each of the following medications?

  1. IV furosemide (Lasix)
  2. Enalapril (Vasotec)
  3. Metoprolol (Lopressor)
  4. IV morphine sulphate (Morphine)

Describe four cardiovascular conditions that may lead to heart failure and what can be done in the form of medical/nursing interventions to prevent the development of heart failure in each condition.

Taking into consideration the fact that most mature adults take at least six prescription medications, discuss four nursing interventions that can help prevent problems caused by multiple drug interactions in older patients. Provide rationale for each of the interventions you recommend.

Pricing Strategies in Marketing

Duration: (19:35)

User: somasclasses – Added: 11/4/11

YouTube URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8aZr-Ula1w

You’ve just developed a new product with little competition. What pricing strategy will you use?

Instructions: Answer questions and respond to Two of your peers’ post

Student 1/Regarding this lesson, the objective was to be able to explain the pricing’s role in the marketing mix. The marketing mix comprises of the 4 P’s, (Product, Price, Promotion, and Place). When acknowledging the 4P’s, our goal was to link marketing objectives to pricing objectives. We then needed to define the four primary strategies for both the concepts of For-Profit, and then Non-profit. In defining these, we then needed to define alternative pricing strategies. The last part was to categorize offerings into pricing strategies. In close relation to the graph, the information displayed economy, premium, penetration, and skimming. Economy involved low price, low quality, and volume. Premium included high price, high quality, profit, and image. Penetration included good quality, low price, and volume. And lastly, skimming involves good quality, high price, initial volume and profit. In relation to Non-profiting specifically, we find there are key attributes that are imperative to discuss and pay attention to. These attributes include: Market Incentive, public transit, cost recovery (full or partial), profit maximization, typically event specific, and it’s volume (fill seats). The video then lastly addressed the alternative pricing strategies that consisted of: Promotional, Geographical, and Value. In this sense we see that short term correlates with promotional, variations demand and operational costs correlates with geographical, and recession, and competition correlates with value.

————————————————————————————————————-

Student 2/After watching this video there are a few takeaways from that I have learned about pricing strategies. Of course I remember the marketing mix from previous chapters and pricing is a basic factor that determines the rest like promotion and place. In the video it discusses profit objective while setting pricing at maximum it can hurt them by not getting enough customers. On the other hand is companies use survival if the prices are always low how can the obtain a gross amount of profit. But if I have a product with little competition the best pricing strategy I believe to go with would be for profit and mostly using the volume strategy which consist of economy and penetration. When a product first comes out to test how well it can do using penetration method is good because it set for good quality at a low price. While this may be considered playing it safe this the best route not lose all money if the product does not work out. Another strategy that would work best for a new product would be promotional while much money cannot be achieved this way it allows for the product to be pushed out there and be noticed.

Step 6. Individual Reflection Instructions

Each member from both sides will submit an individual reflection essay (500 word minimum) about the negotiations process.

In your essay:

  • Discuss how the outcomes compared to your expectations for each process.
  • Include discussion of the intraorganizational bargaining, the attitudinal structuring, and the form of negotiations.
  • Discuss leverage, including the application of Marshall’s four conditions (see the Budd text) and the alternatives to reaching an agreement.
  • Include any lessons that you could apply to your experiences from the health care, auto industry, pro sports and/or newspaper cases from Clark, Delaney and Frost. How did your experiences compare/contrast with these cases?
  • Apply the Cleary and Shetach articles to your essay. What lessons did you/should you have used from these articles?

Unit assesment 4 questions

Question 1.

Several internal and external assessment methods were discussed within this unit. Identify and discuss three internal assessment methods that you feel are most effective and three that you feel are least effective. Identify and discuss three external assessment methods that you feel are most effective and three that you feel are least effective. Explain your reasoning.

Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Question 2

Choosing the best candidate for an organization can require a great amount of time and effort for the human resources department. Often times, HR looks at both internal and external candidates. Discuss the firm’s external and internal assessment goals. How does this impact the hiring decision?

Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Question 3

The job offer process is very critical when choosing the best candidate for the job. Some of the things that attract and entice candidates were mentioned in previous units. As with strategies for recruiting candidates, the company must also have strategies in place for making job offers. Identify and discuss, in detail, the factors that affect the content of job offers. What should occur if the company rejects a candidate? If the candidate rejects the company?

Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Question 4

There are two ways of combining candidates’ assessment scores so that they can be compared with one another. Discuss the multiple hurdles approach and the compensatory approach. Which approach to combining candidates’ assessment scores would you favor for choosing candidates? Why? Be certain to discuss key components used within each process.

Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

answer and responses

1.The first step in determining the kind of exercise that should be conducted in your facility or community is to systematically study an updated HVA or conduct a needs assessment, then write SMART objectives. List at least four SMART objectives that you think should be included in designing a response to a natural hazard such as a tornado, which has created a collapse requiring people to be rescued. Make sure that they all meet SMART criteria.

Participants in the tabletop exercise will be a facilitator, 5 paid paramedics, 10 paid EMT’s, and at least 7 volunteer EMTs. To be the most effective, it will be a multi-agency exercise, including representatives from law enforcement and the fire department. There will be 3 sessions for the tabletop exercise so that there is a rotation of medics attending on their day off. It is an informal learning session that will occur in the conference room at Headquarters. In the meeting room will be several 2-way radios, a laptop with a power point presentation, a conference table & chairs, and paper and pen for notes. Proper communication between medics will be demonstrated by the facilitators. There will be the opportunity for medics to read scenarios and determine how and what they will communicate. The skill to properly switch to the correct disaster frequency on the agency’s radio will be reviewed and tested.

Email will be as follows:

To (participant’s name):

Please attend the tabletop exercise at Headquarters on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday at 09:00. We are concerned that interagency communication has been less than adequate. We plan to review plain language skills as well as radio etiquette. We will also review expected information that should be communicated to dispatch during a disaster. Although this is a required training session, it is informal and so you are allowed to attend in street clothes.

Communication scenario will include the pre-incident warning, notification, response, and recovery. A scenario for this exercise will be for a plane crash at a local airport with over 100 injured passengers. It will be “enough to exhaust initial local resources, challenge mutual aid systems, and highlight potential areas of weakness in the communications systems” (Department of Homeland Security, 2013). The scenario will be as realistic as possible for the local airport with challenges that do not overwhelm the participants. This particular TTX will be focused on the interagency communication skills of the participants. There will be a review that follows the exercise to go over the strengths and weaknesses discovered.

We will conduct a tabletop exercise (TTX) focusing on the suboptimal communications that has become a recurring trend amongst the various Emergency Medical Technicians (basic, paramedic) (EMT) and responding units in our urban pre-hospital system.

The TTX will be held at the EMS Headquarters Command Conference Room (CCR) on Thursday, 12 July. The CCR has video teleconference (VTC) equipment, encrypted Wi-Fi for portable devices, four whiteboards, satellite television feed, and ten two-way radios. Deputy Director, Logistics, will ensure all attendees have writing materials. The exercise will be broadcast live using Adobe Connect to maximize attendance and participation while maintaining adequate coverage in the urban area.

Participants will include the facilitator, five EMT-P, ten EMT-B, a minimum of seven volunteer EMT, and at least one representative from the following from external agencies: Fire and Police Departments, City Council (e.g. Infrastructure, Communications), Anywhere General (AG) Emergency Room (ER), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), American Red Cross (ARC), Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Service (EDS), and Team Rubicon. The TTX will be recorded so it can be used as a training aid for those unable to attend and by the external agencies as part of the TEP. An after action review meeting is planned so major findings and recommended improvements can be widely disseminated.

The TTX will begin with an overview of important concepts, terms, and ground rules that are key to participation in the exercise. The catalyst for the exercise will be a disastrous flash flood in the urban area that severely degrades digital and analog communication systems. Attendees will work through three modules: general discussion of what the immediate communications priorities for responding to the event are, identifying the shared interoperable communication platforms (digital, analog), and standard terminology plus determining shortfalls and/or gaps, and finally, codifying the lessons learned, best practices, and way ahead for the pre-hospital communications system.

Howl passage analysis

1. Select 1 passage from Howl. (The words passage and quotation are used interchangeably and mean the same thing.)
◦ Your passage may include an image since the images are part of the author’s writing. You may also piece together multiple passages using ellipses (…) in between.
◦ Be sure to include the page number(s) after the passage, like this (17-18).
2. Write a short summary of the passage (1-2 sentences).
◦ this is just to get the summary out of your system and to be able to focus on an analysis
3. Analyze the passage you have chosen (3-4 sentences).
◦ What does is show you as a reader?
◦ Can you apply the theoretical lenses to the passage? What does that reveal about the passage?
◦ What is your interpretation of the passage?
◦ remember to avoid summarizing the passage
◦ remember to avoid making overgeneralizations based on the text.
4. See sample below.

Your post should look something like this:

Passage: “Nan said to Tess, but projecting for the benefit of the front, ‘Truly, are we so superior as we think? I wonder little. When we first moved in at the mine, we did something at the house so stupid am still in pain. There were two pawpaw trees growing side by side by the house, one thriving with nice big pawpaws on it and the other sick-looking and leaf-less – dead looking. Well, we thought it was plain what we should do: take down the dead tree. So we hauled and pushed on the trunk of the poor tree and strained and pulled it over – uprooted it, Gareth and myself. It was his idea: we must just straight off do this, get it over. Then, with the crash, the servants come out. They had funny looks on. Dineo said, so quietly, ‘Oh, Mma, you have killed the male.’ We didn’t understand. It seems the pawpaw grow in pairs, couples, male and female. The male tree looks like a phallus – no foliage to it, really. The female needs the male in order to bear. They take years to reach the heights ours had. Then the female died. The staff had been eating pawpaws from our tree for years. It was a humiliation” ( Rush 21).

Summary: Nan is explaining to Tess how she and Gareth dug up a tree that looked like it was dead, but that they learned from the natives that they were all wrong about their interpretation of the tree. It looked dead but the other tree needed it for its survival.

Analysis: The pawpaw trees function as a symbol within the text. They symbolize the hierarchic relationship between the men and the women in the text as well as the hierarchic relationship between the whites and the blacks in the text. When Rush writes that they “uprooted” the tree, it brings to mind the appropriation of colonies and cultural upheaval.
