Week 5 DQ 1 – Response to fellow classmate – Amy Pape, psychology homework help

The answer to the question of the best type of test used to identify applicants with the strongest job and organization fit is not black and white. The best test depends on the situation, including applicant factors and the job or organization that is hiring. For instance, say a person with no experience was applying for a data entry position. The hiring manager cannot use past experience to judge job fit, therefore, a cognitive ability test can come in handy (Schmidt & Hunter, 1998). The cognitive ability test could help the hiring manger see if the candidate was a quick learner or had the ability to pick up on needed mental abilities required of the organization. In a different situation, however, an integrity test may make more sense. For instance, say a house cleaning company was hiring for a maid. The best psychometric assessment that would make sense in that situation would be an integrity test. With the house cleaners being in and out of different individual’s houses and working on their own, it is vital that they have high integrity to ensure they do not steal and that they complete the job to the highest standards. Please provide a 150-200 word response to the question and please use at least 1 reference. Also please cite reference in APA 6th edition format and please provide doi or www info for reference if applicable.

Assignment

Memos are an important part of our professional communications toolbox. This exercise will demonstrate your ability to compose an effective, short memo using the proper conventions and format of the standard business memo.

Audience

When writing to professional peers who are unknown to you personally, you must minimize the use of acronyms, jargon, or inside references that your readers may not understand. One approach is to imagine an individual reader as you draft your document. You should base your message upon either knowledge or intelligent speculation about answers to these questions:

• What can you reasonably assume this reader knows and does not know?

• What are the reader’s “hot buttons” (that is, key issues and phrases that stimulate the reader’s interest)?

• What information, questions, solutions, or action steps does the reader expect from your message?

• What is the urgency of your communication with the reader? Does your message require minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months for a response? Is it a “policy statement” that will endure for a long time?

• What is the main purpose of your communication with the reader — response to reader’s previous message? call to action? information? heads-up (warning)? suggestion? recommendation?

Answers to these questions will have a major impact on the length and style of your message.

Subject

Read the article on Engineering Scholarships at:

https://tinyurl.com/yaknazoe (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Then, write a brief and properly-formatted memo to one of the Deans of the College of Engineering about this scholarship program. You should inform the Dean about the scholarship and encourage the Dean to work with companies in the Tampa Bay area to institute a similar scholarship on our campus. You should cite the benefits of this scholarship and perhaps mention some local companies that may be potential scholarship sponsors. You must also address a specific Dean who may be receptive to your memo. You do not need to actually present this memo to the Dean; this is an in-class memo intended to acquaint you with the conventions and format of memos in the business world.

FORMAT

Use MS Word or a similar word processor to create a single-spaced memo of around 350 words. Use 12-point type, 8-1/2” x 11” document size, with default margins (1.25” right and left, and 1” top and bottom) Use 12-point boldface, upper case for section headings within the body of your memo.

Follow formatting directions in this assignment, the Web links, and the sample memos in our text.

Post your completed memo to this Assignment area no later than the due date for this week’s assignments.

Progress Report Format Evaluation

Part 1

We looked at Progress Reports in Chapter 9 of our text during last week’s assignments. Progress reports (also called Status Reports) are an important element of your participation in engineering projects. You will be required to submit Progress Reports for the two upcoming major assignments in this class (the Proposal and the Research Project).

Have a look at a good description of Progress Reports in the technical professions at

http://www.writing.engr.psu.edu/workbooks/prog.html (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Also, review the information about Progress Reports in Chapter 9 of our text.

Then . . . Examine the Progress Report examples in Chapter 9 of our text. This is a progress report related to a research project, and will be very similar to the kind of Progress Report you will be asked to produce for our final research project.

Next . . . Analyze the report here, in this Discussion forum. Specifically, tell us

1. How does this report match the requirements for a Progress Report outlined in our book?

2. How does this report match the requirements for a Progress Report outlined in the Website, above?

3. What tips, specifically, can you get from looking at this report that may help you design and write your own, upcoming status reports for the Proposal and for the Research projects?

Be specific. Be detailed. And write at least 300 words for this assignment.

——————————————————-Here is the text of our assignment ————————————————————-

Overview

The Progress Report which describes your engineering and research activities is one of the most important documents an engineer has to write. For ENC 3246 students, your report will demonstrate to the instructor your progress on an upcoming assignment. You also will learn how to write Progress Reports in the real world.

Your Progress Report should contain at least the following headings:

SUMMARY/PROJECT DESCRIPTION – A short description of your project and a summary of the overall project goal.

GANTT CHART – A complete, accurate, and visually-appealing Gantt chart describing the due dates and various phases of your project.

WORK COMPLETED – A short description of the progress you have made during the previous week. Make sure that you are accurate and honest about the work accomplished. An experienced Progress Report reader can tell if you are overstating or misrepresenting your completed work.

ISSUES OR PROBLEMS – A description of any problems or issues you have had during the past week and a plan to address or resolve these issues. Be sure to discuss how any problems have impacted the project.

WORK REMAINING/PLAN FOR THE COMING WEEK – A short description of the remaining work and your plan for the coming week.

CHANGES – A description of any changes in specifications, resources or schedules which are likely to affect your progress.

OTHER INFORMATION – Any information not elsewhere classified in this report.

Your Class Project Progress Reports

The primary goal of your class project reports will be to inform your instructor of the nature of your project, the amount of work you’ve already accomplished, the amount of work you have left to do, and your overall comfort level about meeting the assignment deadline. Your instructor will use your report to determine if you are making sufficient progress and if you need additional direction or help.

Your best example of an effective progress report for this assignment is Case Document 9-3 in The Essentials of Technical Communication by Tebeaux and Dragga. However, make sure that you include at least the particular progress report headings mentioned earlier in this assignment.

Progress Reports in the Workplace

As a young engineer, you will find writing these reports difficulty and inconvenient. As a Senior Engineer you will learn that these documents are vital for maintaining effective engineering management of a project. It is to your professional advantage to keep project management informed of your progress and especially of your failures and difficulties.

Your reports will be used by senior engineering management for the purposes of allocating scarce resources, updating interface specifications and – most of all – identifying at an early stage any problems requiring additional attention. Good managing engineers want to see your failures and problems at the top of the list because bad news, if hidden or not disclosed, can defeat an engineering project. Good news always reaches managers and normally doesn’t require their immediate attention or action.

In addition to providing a tool for engineering management oversight, your weekly Progress Reports will serve as a record of your achievement for your annual personnel review. If you are a competent engineer, then you will be able to bring this record of your year’s work to your review meeting and discuss with your supervisor in tangible terms how you met his/her/the company’s objectives and why you have earned an increase in compensation or why you deserve a promotion.

The quality and accuracy of your weekly Progress Reports will be primary factors in building your engineering reputation. Both your career and your financial success will depend on your ability to be an effective engineer and author. Your Progress Reports are your advertising and your record of achievement.

Rate of Return for Stocks and Bonds

Purpose of Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to allow the student an opportunity to calculate the rate of return of equity and debt instruments. It allows the student to understand the effects of dividends; capital gains; inflation rates; and how the nominal rate of return affects valuation and pricing. The assignment also allows the student to apply concepts related to CAPM, WACC, and Flotation Costs to understand the influence of debt and equity on the company’s capital structure.

Assignment Steps

Resources: Corporate Finance

Calculate the following problems and provide an overall summary of how companies make financial decisions in no more than 700 words, based on your answers:

  1. Stock Valuation: A stock has an initial price of $100 per share, paid a dividend of $2.00 per share during the year, and had an ending share price of $125. Compute the percentage total return, capital gains yield, and dividend yield.
  2. Total Return: You bought a share of 4% preferred stock for $100 last year. The market price for your stock is now $120. What was your total return for last year?
  3. CAPM: A stock has a beta of 1.20, the expected market rate of return is 12%, and a risk-free rate of 5 percent. What is the expected rate of return of the stock?
  4. WACC: The Corporation has a targeted capital structure of 80% common stock and 20% debt. The cost of equity is 12% and the cost of debt is 7%. The tax rate is 30%. What is the company’s weighted average cost of capital (WACC)?
  5. Flotation Costs: Medina Corp. has a debt-equity ratio of .75. The company is considering a new plant that will cost $125 million to build. When the company issues new equity, it incurs a flotation cost of 10%. The flotation cost on new debt is 4%. What is the initial cost of the plant if the company raises all equity externally?

Submit your summary and all calcluations.
