Addressing poverty can often seem like an insurmountable task. After all, how can one person make a difference? Over the years, you may have asked yourself this question once or twice. I would like to pose another question: how does theory inform our actions? Keep this question in the back of your mind as you think about solving a social problem such as poverty.

Task: Select an organization that focuses on reducing poverty and alleviates economic insecurity (globally or locally). Perhaps you have donated money in the past, volunteered in your community, or simply would like to use this homework assignment to explore a new organization.

Post your organization’s website in the class discussion and write a very brief description addressing the three (2) questions below.

Question prompt: (1) If you were to donate your time, money, and energy what organization would you choose? (2) What specific anti-poverty action(s) does your organization practice? Why is this organization meaningful to you?

At the end of the poverty discussion forum we will have a significant list of websites and organizations that are attempting to rectify poverty. Other questions to ponder:

  • What theories are driving these organizations and people?
  • How do we turn such resources in positive systemic change at all levels of society?
  • What role does morality, politics, and emotion play in maintaining impoverished conditions?
  • Is their a tipping point for homelessness in our society? How many people must be homeless or impacted by insecure housing before our society reacts?

Anti-poverty groups and organizations answer these questions and more. It is vital for us to ask critical questions and to be self-reflective: what is my role in perpetuating poverty? What is societies role in perpetuating poverty? Finally, the organizations we provide as a group are representative of the bridges between the micro and macro levels of society. In other words, link “the personal with the public,” ultimately understanding this connection is necessary for societal change.

After completing your stakeholder analysis and developing your stakeholder register, you started working on your next project, which will be to develop a project charter. You started to gather information from various stakeholders via interviews and e-mails. The latest e-mail you sent caused quite a response. Several meetings were centered on the project charter, statement of work (SOW), work breakdown structure (WBS), and enterprise environmental factors and organizational process assets that you will use to complete the second and most important deliverable at this stage, the project charter. Jim comes to your desk one afternoon for further discussion.

“Our team meetings on the SOW, project charter, WBS, and environmental factors and organizational process assets have been very productive,” says Jim. “Thanks for getting this project charter moving in the right direction.”

Regional/Local Immigration History

This paper option allows students to explore in detail the immigration history within their local
community or region. The research for this paper will include research on the ethnic groups that
have immigrated to your local community (i.e. city, county, regional area such as “southern
California” – but not as large as an entire state). From this research, you should select one ethnic
group from your local community and research the immigration experiences of this group in detail.

In developing your paper, do not simply tell or summarize the immigrant group’s story. Instead, set
their history up (pre-immigration, arrival, settlement) within the specific socio-historical contexts
that you have been learning about in this class. Analyze how their experiences have contributed to
America’s cultural pluralism. In total, your paper should include a clear introduction identifying

The video also discusses euthanasia, although the point of this reference is to illustrate how the law can be used as a tool for social change. The video also discusses moral values with a focus on media coverage of harm to children. Laws have changed in direct response to these incidents and the resulting media coverage. In effect, this coverage becomes an engine for social change. The video ends with a discussion of crime theory, reminding us that many criminological theories fall short when applied to people with wealth and high status.

Write a paper discussing the myths and realities of crime. Please elaborate on the following points in your essay:
